Computer for the wife
I put this list together for a computer that I am building for my wife. It will be mostly for surfing the net, writing papers, some moderate gaming, and light photo storing and editing. The total price including shipping is $970 my cap was $1000. I don't need a mouse or speakers so they aren't on the list. Let me know what you all think and if I overlooked or forgot anything. It's been about 2 years since I even looked into newer parts and tech so I was a bit behind on my research

Looks pretty good. I would switch to a hard drive with a 16mb cache for a slight boost. I would also go with an eVGA video card, the 7600GT on newegg is few dollars cheaper. That particular Lite-On does not come with burning software, if you need it.

Looks pretty good to me too.
420w is good but you might want to consider this one here for the same price instead: Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W Power Supply 115/230 V TUV, UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103937 $69.99 |

Changed the Vid card to suggested as well as the PSU and upgraded the HDD. Also decided to go with an AMD system. Tell me what you think.

AM2 is buggy right now. To avoid a potential problem, make sure you get memory modules on the ASUS QVL list. You can download the QVL here: http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...81&modelmenu=1
