Installing the OS problems.
Hey everyone. Sorry for making so much threads recently, but I still need more help.
I guess my new mobo did work! I was so happy today when I saw that monitor light go green, and the BIOS pop-up. My next step? To install the OS. I've got four options for boot order. These two caught my eye: IDE: LITE-ON DVDRW and ATAPI CD-ROM. (I do have two drives btw). Anyway, I chose IDE: LITE-ON DVDRW. So, I put Windows in the top CD drive, and reboot. I quickly get a screen saying something about JMicron IDE controller and it also says something about LITE-ON DVDRW, but then it goes to a screen that says Reboot and Select proper Boot device r (I think it's Or cut off) Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key So, I press a key, and the same message comes up. Thanks for any help anyone gives! |

Put the OS CD in which ever of the two optical drives you have set to master, make sure that in the BIOS you have the boot order set to boot from CD rom first.

I put the OS CD in the top drive. It still told me: Reboot and Select proper Boot device r Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key I put it in the bottom drive, the same message popped-up again. I then made the first in the boot order LITE-ON DVDRW, same thing as last time happened. I'd like to say that the only connectors I plugged into the drives are the power and IDE ones. There were some that remained unfilled. Again, thanks for any more help anyone can give. |

What IDE cable are you using for the optical drives, 40wire (all grey plugs) or 80wire (blue plug on the motherboard end, black plug on the opposite end of the cable and grey plug in the middle)?
How do you have the jumpers set on the back of the optical drives? |

Jumpers? All I have in the back of my CD drives are the wire going to the power supply, and the IDE cable going to the mobo. You see, I got "OEM" drives, which must have meant a drive in bubble wrap. There are some ports in the back of the CD drives for more cables. My drives open and close though, and I hear them spin. Is there any more cables I will need? I do have a computer that died recently, it had two CD drives, maybe there are cables I need that I can get from them. |

You have all the cables you need.
Make sure the blue plug is connected to the motherboard, the black plug is connected to the drive you want as the first in the order and the grey to the other optical drive. Look at the back of the optical drives, take them out of the case if you have to, look for some lettering like this: MS (master), SL (slave), CS (cable select) make sure that both drives are set to CS (cable select). |

For the OS installation you might want to connect just one optical drive for now and then connect the second one after the OS is installed. Makes things easier.
