430w PSU
Hey Guys,
I didn't know where else to ask this question. I am buildinga new pc but I am still deciding on the components. Also I am waiting for a new mobo and GPU to come out and see what they're like. Anyways, I've decided on the CPU a few other components, one of which is the case. I am thinking of getting this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133156 In the stats it says a 430w power supply. I've been told, since I want to run to GPUs in SLI/Crossfire I'd need a 500w power supply. What exactly does it mean when in the case stats it says 430w PSU? Does it come with a 430w PSU? or does it mean it can only fit a 430w PSU? Cheers, Maqqie |

That power supply is 430W atx with a 20 pin main connector.
It won't be suitable for either sli or crossfire, or just about any build with newer parts. For SLI you need a PSU from the sli certified list Crossfire has it's own certified list. As far as fitting, you can put a larger power supply in that case, the sizes are standardized. If you get a case without a power supply, you can save some cash. Same case, no power supply $40 cheaper after rebate.

No, there are several sizes, what you want will be ATX size.
The height and width of the back will be the same for all of those and the 4 screw holes will be in the same place. Some of them are longer than others, but with an ATX size case, that isn't usually a problem. Depending on whether the auxillariy power connector on your motherboard is 4 pin or 8 pin, you will need an ATX 2.0 (4) or ATX 2.0 EPS (8).

hmmm.. k, looks like I have to do some reading up. I was meaning to ask this question.
What exactly is ATX size? (I remember I also saw BTX size/configuration for cases) Does an ATX PSU fit all ATX cases? What are those extra connectors you are talking about? Cheers, Maqqie |

BTX is another form factor (has a different layout of components) developed by Intel to combat rising CPU heat output....kinda useless now that Intel has switched to effeciency mode and heat's not really a problem any more. I've seen it implemented in some Dells, but it hasn't taken off in the DIY crowd. In short: avoid BTX, stick with ATX.
EDIT: Oops, typo

Typo there, he meant "stick with ATX".
