A DVD burner would be a good idea....drop the CDRom drive 1 Gig of ram is better Gof for a larger drive...Seagate are good, maybe a 200gig SATA or bigger ASUS MB's are good.

Is that a SATA or IDE hard drive?
Samsung drives aren't known for reliability, performance, or quiteness. LITE-ON or NEC burners are a good choice. As tempus said, go for a DVD burner. One can be had for as little as $30 (USD). You'll need to get faster RAM. You'll need DDR2-667 up to DDR2-800. Also be sure to get a dual channel kit (2 identical sticks). I don't know how your budget is looking, but you might consider swinging for a 1 gig kit (2 512MB sticks). Things like games and video editing can really benefit from more RAM. What power supply did you choose? (Brand and model) Also, one thing to note. The 965 chipset has no native IDE support, so you may have issues booting to the Windows CD. LITE-ON is bring out some cheap (about the same as IDE) SATA optical drives that you might look at. EDIT: You seleceted a PCI-E x16 video card, and not an AGP card? That card comes in both formats.

Never use the psu that comes with your case, the only exception to this rule is the antec series of cases. Speaking of which if you really want a case/psu combo and are on a budget, I suggest the antec sonata w/included 450w psu.
I suggest you get a sata dvdrw, i believe liteon had some in a reasonable range.. Thats a good choice on hard drives. Best thing to do would be to follow manufacturer's memory list/qvl. Otherwise some safe choices would be: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145566 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145539 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145568 I really suggest you atleast get ddr2 667 or ddr2 800. Works best with core2duo.

Oddly enough, I could swear I saw a few cheap lite-on sata dvdrw's unfortunetly theres only 1, and thats a combo drive
. No dvdrw capabilities, just dvd and cdrw- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106040I think your best choice here would be ide if you want dvdrw The gpu is fine, see if you can bump a little up to xt it will help out in the games, otherwise good build. |

Onboard sound is usually more than adequate.
If you have a serious need for a better sound card here is a great one: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102188 $111.99 (71.99 after $40.00 Mail-In Rebate) |

How long until you think you'll have the money? If a couple months, you might have to revise the list again (new video cards, price shifts, etc)...
Also, buy everything at once. Don't buy a part here and there over a month or two. |
