Boom New Build Can't Boot XP

I am building a new PC....everything from scratch....got it all together and am where I need to install the OS. I can't get XP Pro to boot from my cd drive. I changed the boot sequence in bios to be the cd rom first then the HD. My understanding is that XP should boot and then the HD could be partitioned etc and then windows xp would install and I would be good to go...not sure what to do next. This is an OEM verision of XP pro

Here are other specs

Asus-M2NSLI DLX mobo
AMD Athlon 64 X2 FX-62 cpu
Corsair 2G TwinX DDR2 8500C5 W/EPP
nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB
WD Raptor 150GB 16MB cache HD
Plextor 760A DVD+-RW Dual Layer

When power up the unit with the CD in the DVD drive everything appears to be working ok the light comes on on the DVD drive but it just spins....XP never boots....any ideas would be appreciated. I did search post here and found many similar to mine but so far nothing worked for me. Thanks

Again, other people are having issues with AMD X2 Processors and DVD drives. One person actually got a refund (Just search this site). You might need to at the very least contact AMD and see if there's a compatible DVD drive.

Send a message via AIM to Mr.Ferrari
Do you mean xp setup does automatically boot from cd? You might have to manually make sure its booting from cd. When posting press f8 and selecet your the optical that the xp cd is in. See what happens then.

And theres no reason you dvd drive should not be compatible. As long as your motherboard as a ide slot for your optical (or sata) it should work.

Boy that whoa didn't last long.....got indication xp setup was loading, got two messages one to press a key if I needed to a restore and another similar...then it moved on to a message saying windows was evaluating my hardware coinfiguration or something like that....screen is blue with windows setup displaying at top left at this point....nothing happens after this....screen just stays blue.....let it stay this way for over five minutes....nothing....I go to power the unit down and now the power button does not respond....the only way to power down is to unplug....I power it back up after a few minutes and the scenario repeats.

Now I am getting officially frustrated....any ideas.....

A little more info now....seems like if I let this thing sit it teases me by betting a bit further along..the system finally let me partitiion the hard drive. After that windows did begin to load its files.....went all the way thru the installation and even installed windows letting me enter the key code and all.....when it finished it indicated it would restart the computer in x seconds and began to count down but it never rebooted. It just sorta froze right there. After about 5 minutes I powered it down and tried to get it to boot but so far no luck...I can get to bios most of the time and once in awhile it looks like it is going to start windows but then the screen just goes blank and it does nothing....I am getting desperate here.....any ideas....
