new build won't power on

I just put together my first build. I followed the guide on this site and tried powering it on and nothing. The only thing that happened is the LED in my fan behind the power switch flicked on for a fraction of a second. I've tried removing everything and putting it back together. I've also tried the things listed "Sticky: Having problems with a new build? Try this"
Thanks in advance for the help.
Here're the specs:
CPU AMD|A64 X2 4200+ AM2
MB GIGA GA-M55SLI-S4 NF4 SLI AM2
MEM 512Mx2|CORSAIR TWIN2X1024A-6400
CASE XION|XON-103 BLK 450W RT
VGA MSI N PCIE NX7300GS-TD256E

Since you already tried the out-of-case troubleshooter I think you're looking at a defective power supply or motherboard. And since you've got a Xion power supply I'd try replacing that first. You'll want to get a good quality power supply from this list.

I decided to try the out-of-case troubleshooter one more time and I also switched to a different power strip and it worked. So then I moved it into the case and it doesn't work.

You are most likely grounding out the modo on the case. Try making the screws more loose that are holding the mobo down so it doesn't contact the metal case...

Are you sure you don't have some unused motherboard standoffs installed?
