New Build
I longtime reader,but first time poster.HELLO!
I want to make sure the parts I have are going to be compatible with my new build. This build will be used primarily for gaming.I do tend to burn alot of music, but that doesn't require anything special, except a decent writer.I know a could have went dual core on a cpu,but a single core fits my main purpose for gaming. This is my first build.I will probably go dual core on my next build.Anywho,I still need some help on finding some parts. Partial list: Lian Li PC-G70 EPoX EP-9NPA+ SLi Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI amd64 4000+ Undecided list: Ram-I need 2 gigs.o-cing is not a top priority psu-not sure, but have been reading alot of reviews. video card-a 7900gt....Still looking Last edited by weedhopper; 08-19-2006 at 02:57 PM. |

Thanks for the link.I'm not actually going for a sli-set-up,but I really like the reviews and stability of this motherboard.I have heard alot of horror stories on my original choice"asus",but to each his own.I will use that list as a guide because I may go for dual cards down the road.

OCZ PowerStream / SLI™ Ready / 600W/520W / PowerFlex Adjustable Rails Budget: Video card: Max-300.00 This pc is for gaming,so I dont want to go cheap here. Memory-I never overclocked anything except my 95 Grand Prix se,but that was clocked a100mph on the turnpike. Not a good day for a speeding ticket.Lets say,150-200 on memory. Edit - OUCH! To much cash for the OCZ .Damm 250.00 smackers for a psu!!!I need to find some cheaper quality on this purchase. Build Pricing Lian Li PC-G70 $ 180.00(plus mods) Pricey, but will last for many builds. PSU: No, dont go with the 600W version. Go with the 520W. 1 single rail at 34a will smack the 600w with 2 18a rails. And that 520W powerstream is one of the best psu's in that and this era. One of the favorites for high voltage overclocking and has rock solid rail stability and regulation., I know that your not (overclocking), but nonetheless its a good thing to have that certification
. Plus its cheaper.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817711002 GFX: I suggest the X1900XT for the card. If thats too high, X1800XT 512MB. Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145579 Good choice on the case. G70 is one heck ofa case for the price. Last edited by Mr.Ferrari; 08-19-2006 at 03:28 PM. |

Sweet! I like the price on the 520 powerstream.I can deal with 135 dollars. The EPoX EP-9NPA+ has a decent bios for o-cing.I have read that people really like to overclock using this board.I figure with a 2.4 gig cpu,and a kick-ass video card, overclocking is not a main priority.
I'm not that anal where I have to run all my settings on max,and overclock to get some more speed. This is also based on the fact I dont know how.DOH!!! I will really have to do some thinking on the video card, but i would like to stay under 300.00 I dont mind spending 200 dollars on good memory with a lifetime warrenty, but I need to find out if this mobo is picky on certain brands. You gotta love it! A motherboard with attitude. Last edited by weedhopper; 08-19-2006 at 03:30 PM. |

Overclocking is not something I would do or want to do if this is my first build. Besides it more of a hobby then you know doing it for more frame rates. You wont really notice the difference on normal usage. Besides you risk component failure and data corruption.
Some suggests for the videocards. $264.99, 244.99 after mib; 7900gt: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130033 319.99, 289.99 after MIB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102025 X1900XT, will run circles around the 7900gt and then some. However your choice. 7900Gt is good bang for the buck nonetheless. I would suggest the X1800XT 512mb but for some reason it seems to be MIA, it used to be darn cheap I know that and would beat the 7900gt for the same price.
