new build - confusing problems

Hey guys, its my first computer build, so bear with me.

Heres a link to all my specs,

http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/forum...TOPIC_ID=16061

I'm not exactly sure what the problem is.

I was able to get windows xp installed on the system.

I did not change any of my bios settings or any jumpers from default.

When i start up my computer, sometimes it takes quite a while for anything to show up on the screen, my monitor says no signal, but the fans are turning.

It sometimes takes a couple minutes and then the windows xp loading screen pops up.

My motherboard makes absolutely no beeps. Do i need to wire in some speaker or isnt' it already prebuild into the motherboard?

Once the computer starts up, everything runs ok for a while.

Sometimes the computer crashes when loading Halo.

It also randomly crashes while playing games like Sims 2, Half-life 2 and CS source.

I updated all the graphics drivers.

I"m not sure what the problem is.

i think i probably forgot to wire something?

ANy help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers?
Are you sure that the CPU heatsink is on correctly, those Intel 775 models are a little tricky to get on right.

That motherboard does not have a built in speaker. You have to connect the case speaker to the motherboard at the front panel header. Refer to your motherboard manual for location. In fact, you might want to read the entire motherboard manual again to see if you missed anything else.

The chipset drivers are installed.

I'm almost postive i put on the heat sink correctly.

My case does not have a speaker, or atleast i can't find any wires or any reference in the manual about a case speaker.

It does a have chassis intrution speaker, but thats different.

Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

I may just rebuild the entire computer.

That case doesn't have a speaker? You don't see a pair of red and black wires coming from the front of the case with a 4 pin connector?

now, the system powers up when i simply flick the switch on the back of the power supply, instead of when i push the power button.

ALso, no display comes up at all, but all the fans are spinning.

The cd tray opens when i push the open button.

I know its not the video card, cause they work in my other computer.

help please.

You can buy a case speaker from any computer shop for a couple of bucks, but I don't know where you can install it in that case.

To me it sound as if you either have a defective power supply or defective motherboard. I've heard of a few Antec PSUs being problematic recently so I'd try another power supply first.

I got the problem fixed.

Ended up being defective ram.

Thanks for the help.

I'll go out and buy a case speaker.
