$2,000 is an excellent budget. I believe you mean a 500gb hard drive. Take a look at the new Intel Core 2 Duo processors.

Here is a nice hard drive for you: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136014

Here is a altered version of what my next build will be to take into account what you wanted. I think twin 250GB drives would be cheaper then one large 500GB drive. Most cases and motherboards have extra internal bays and SATA ports that you might as well use.

Motherboard:

I'd recommend the P5W DH Deluxe and an X1900XT/X over the current SLI Conroe boards...

I've heard of XClio power supplies, but they aren't on the Crossfire certified list and they are on the lower end SLI certified list.

Also I don't think that P5N32-SLI board is compatible with Core 2 Duo - only the SE version is:

What is wrong with the rest of the components Staren listed? It is a very solid list. If you have other needs, let us know so we can recommend something else.

This is a pretty hardcore computer you're wanting to build. What is it going to be used for? This will help us determine what hardware is best for your needs. If your gaming, and only gaming, there is no need for 500GB of harddrive space, likewise if you're editing digital photos and need that much space for thousands of photos, you don't need the most expensive video card available.

Okay, so if he's saving lots of what I assume are important documents, I would then suggest you get at least one back up drive.

I suggest against the nforce4 board. Go with a intel chipset.

I would also suggest you NOT game on it if that's the case. Mixing the way a gaming system is used, and the stability needed in a business system is just not a good idea. I would do two systems for those needs.

And just FYI, the non-SE version of the P5N-32 is in fact Core 2 compatible. It's just a matter of the BIOS revision.

I'd like to know your resoning behind this...

I see nothing wrong with mixing a gaming and business machine besides conflict of usage time... a well built machine with quality hardware can handle gaming and business. I do it with mine.

Staren, I just checked the ASUS CPU support page...it doesn't list C2D anywhere on the compatible CPU list. Only the SE version does. I don't think the regular version has the right hardware (having to do with voltage regulators), *unless* there's been a hardware revision, but I thought that was the point of the SE boards.

nForce4 is notorious for instability and issues with intel's. For amd its great but the only nforce chipset that Ill trust with a intel build, especially conroe, is the Nforce 570 and preferably 590.

Just not worth spending 200+ on a board that will give you trouble.

Crossfire and intel is the sweetspot right now if you do indeed go conroe.

Not that picky, ive only heard of issues with the 965 chipset and some ocz ram. But to a extent yes, you can however never go wrong with some mushkin, corsair, or G.Skill
