Exclamation First Build Ever:gaming PC major help!

hey guys, just wanted basically a list of what i would need to build a mainly gaming pc and maybe write a few term papers on. this my first pc buid ever. and i want it to rip through games for a while, if possible.

i have been searching the net for a couple weeks, and have come to a few conclusions. i have a general idea of what gets put into pc's, just not how to put it together, or what parts correlate with eachother.

i have college scholarship limit$1600 pretty sure i can try and add some cash to that if i start selling dope as a study aide .

i want to be able to have:

350 gb HD

256mb video card

atleast 2 gb of memmory, tired of dealing with 512mb for games

a case with a lot of room and is easy to open up.

oh yea i read core duo is good? so i guess something that could use that.

dont really no much about mobo's or psu's or cooling so some help in that area would be good.

oh yea umm... the screen and mouse dont really matter to me just want to get into the meat of things so to say.

GUYs/GIRLs really need your help on what i need to build my budget PC gaming machine.
newegg.com?

thanks

256mb video card Yeah a 256mb card is good for your budget

atleast 2 gb of memmory, tired of dealing with 512mb for games 2gb at the most is what you need, get something like a 1.5gb if your struggling with money

a case with a lot of room and is easy to open up. Get one that you like the look of.

oh yea i read core duo is good? Yes, the new Conroe Core 2 is a very good option to choose!

dont really no much about mobo's or psu's or cooling so some help in that area would be good. You'd want 500w or more PSU and a case fan or two.

thanks
That's a general idea of the things you need.

Is the budget for this computer $1600?

Do you want to go with AMD or INTEL? Either choice is fine.

As far as the motherboard and power supply goes, don't cheap out on either. For the motherboard I'd stick with ABIT or ASUS and here's something to look over regarding the power supply.

And check out this "How To Build A Computer" tutorial.

i have a similar build
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=164422

my final is only like 1200. not including the HD or the OS. i have 200gb HD and i got it fo 60 dollars after rebate. a 350 would probably be under 150. 1600 is a wonderful budget. lucky ducky
