installing new hdd

If I remove my old drive and install my new one, which is exactly the same as the old one, install windows on the new one, re-install my old one will the fact that I have windows on both drives cause a problem? I think not as long as the new one is on primary IDE1. If that's right, how can I get the critical updates out of the old windows install and into the new install? I would like to keep the new drive pretty empty except for some games and do what other stuff I do from the old drive. Can windows be deleted from the old drive?

It would be quite a bit easier to just install the new one and move your files over to it.
