It will probably take you a few hours to put all of the pieces together if you have never done it before. Subsequent builds will take a lot less time.

Anyway, once you get the parts...it really depends, if you take your time and pay attention and all goes smoothly you would probably do it in a long-ish evening...I built my first computer in an evening, but had to finish up with the software end the next day. I would say if you started in the afternoon you'd be done by the end of the day. Of course, if you rush through it and don't pay attention it'll end up taking longer in the long run.
The hardware end won't take that long (remember to do the out-of-case build first!)...but the software end will take the longest.

That's why you have to READ the guide... it details, in a very easy to follow way, exactly how to build a computer... if it isn't sufficient for you, but the book http://www.pcmech.com/store/byopcbook.htm -
In regards to time, I've reassembled a system in 30 minutes, and have had a build take more than 12 hours b/c of shorting with the case and then loading software from scratch.

Once all the parts arrive, read the manuals thoroughly - especially the motherboard manual. It depends person to person on how long the actual process will take - it's usually a couple of hours, generally more for first time builders.

I'd put aside a day for your first build.

Anyways... why does it matter? Take your time and enjoy the experience - you're handeling thousands of dollars of technology, there is no need to rush or set a time limit. Just calm down a bit. If the time concerns you SOOO mcuh, then maybe you aren't prepared to build a computer. |

It took me a few hours to do my first build, because I made some rookie mistakes (wrong screws, not testing it outside the case, etc.)
Plan for a long afternoon at least, so you don't feel rushed. This doesn't include software installation, by the way. |

My last build from unopened boxes to starting the Windows install took about 2 and a half hours because of a small mistake on my part that I had to track down. For the first time builder, from reading everything to the first boot, count on a good 4 or 5 hours give or take depending on how used to electronics and working with tools you are. As others have said, figure on an afternoon, and don't rush because it will just make things take longer.
