fqpissed Need Advice

I have built several computers, and have had very little trouble with any of them. My latests I built specifically for online gaming. It has been working flawlessly for over a year when I went on vacation recently. I unplugged it and isolated it from any storm surges that might occur when I was absent. When I returned the computer would turn on breifly and then just shut down for no apparent reason. I did a get a cryptic message about my overclock settings being set wrong but since I never have overclocked this computer it doesn't make any sense to me. The computer does not stay on long enought for me to access the Bios or any other settings. I swapped out the power supply with no change. I changed cases thinking it may be the on/off switch was faulty but still no change. the motherboard light comes on so it is getting power but it just won't boot. No fans come on or anything. The motherboard is an expensive ASUS and is still only a year old. all components are less than a year old including the hardrives and 6800GT video card. I have tried removing all but the most basic components. Still no go. I am stumped. Anyone have any ideas? I will try anything at this point. Could the motherboard be getting shorted somewhere? Would the power LED come on if this were the case? Please help.

Just a thought but it sounds like your bios has lost it's settings, change the motherboard battery and reset the bios via the motherboard jumper.

Yup.
See this article for a little clearer explanation on changing it than I can give you.

Not batteries, just one battery. Usually a coin type watch battery (CR-2032 or similar) on modern motherboards. Older motherboards used a variety of different types of batteries to provide power to the CMOS.

Thanks for the reply

Thanks, I never thought about the battery, maybe being unplugged for a month discharged the MB battery. I will replace and reset the bios jumper and see if that works.
