I am going with Conroe...

Well, I have been fealling that my first pc's specs were not that good, compared to what I could get...
MoBo EPoX EP-MF570SLI
Case XION XION _ Solaris XON-403
CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor
GPU eVGA 512-P2-N568-AR 7900GT KO 512MB
Ram CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2
Hdd Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB
CD/DVD LITE-ON Black x2
Cooling APEVIA(ASPIRE) CF12SL-UGN 120mm x2
PSU Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W
Extra Microsoft Keyboard + Mouse

So I decided to go with intel's duo core and It is more expensive but I don't mind. I will just have to get some overtime. Also I went with Ati. This computer will be built around the christmas area. I want to get done before christmas. Here are my specs...

MoBo ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP Socket T
Case XION XION _ Solaris XON-403
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe
GPU SAPPHIRE 100149L Radeon X1900XT 512MB
Ram CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2
Hdd Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB
CD/DVD LITE-ON Black x2
Cooling APEVIA(ASPIRE) CF12SL-UGN 120mm x2
PSU Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W
Extra Microsoft Keyboard + Mouse

I havn't caculated the price because I am scared to. I don't want to go much over this. I am also hopeing by christmas the prices will go down $250-$300, but I am just wishing. Do you think that this will be a great build.
P.S. Already got the case so I am staying with this case.

Get this psu instead: http://shop3.outpost.com/product/475...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG
High efficiency, much higher quality, lots of juice on the 12v rails (420w), amazing deal, usually 100 bucks.

I really suggest you spend 10 bucks extra and get a little better case. I suggest the coolermaster centurion 5.

And no need for additional fans. For stock cooling whats on their is fine.

You're going to have to completely revise the list at Christmas time...there'll be new video cards (old ones discontinued, etc), CPU's, price changes, etc

Ya as long as you swap the case and do all the other revisions, its a great build.

Cant swap the case. Already bought that part, but I plan ore re-enforsing it with some sheet metal I can get for free. It may be hard but it will be worth it. If I don't like it I will probally just get a different one and sell this one. I don't really know.

Dont worry about it, if its already ordered its fine. Great build, good luck with the installation. I wasnt worried about it being sturdy, the cooling just isnt the greatest thats all .

That why I am moding it to support 120mm fans. Hope I can. I think I can get atleast one in there. My room will be always around 65F because I love my airconditionare. In the winter I have no heat so It will be good heater. I hope it will work.

Yes, you can setup dual monitors that way. Keep in mind that older TVs have a low resolution. But if it is a newer TV, such as an LCD or Hi-Def set, it will look better.

Crossfire requires a second card. But your X1900XT will be plenty powerful, I wouldn't worry about adding another one.

i jsut bought the xion solaris also. took a gamble on it. it looks nice, but the inside doesnt look so fun to work with. i plan on modding it pretty heavily when i get the time, maybe next summer (paint, top blowhole, cut out better fan holes, change the window design, replace the "xion" logo on the front with a new panel that has an AMD logo and lights up green when the computer is powered on, etc). i realized that i actually enjoyed my cheapo raidmax case better then my antec lanboy that i have now because it looked cooler, and was cheap, so i wasnt afraid to mod it, and the modding turned out pretty well. I'll let you know how i like it when it gets here

Yeah, I plan to reenfore the case and try to put in 2 120mm fans in. If I can't O well. I will just have to live with it for a while. The only thing I didn't like about the case is the xoin lable. I wish it wasn't there. I maybe plan to mod that but for me that would be kind of difficult.

*why* are you wanting the "ulimate" package?? I doubt you (and most users) will ever use most of the extra features over the basic package. I won't be touching Vista until it has time to get the bugs worked out.

(Kinda the same with Home XP vs Pro - most people that go with Pro don't even use the extra features)

is vista even out yet? if i were you, i'd pick up a copy of XP home for the whopping price of $90, use that till vista drops in price, that way u'd have a dual boot and could always use XP if vista turns out to be full of bugs (you may saying how great vista is going to be, but it could always turn out like everybodys favorite O/S windows ME!)

Haven't heard of anything like that...unless you mean SP3, the next Service Pack scheduled to be released sometime in 2007.

I think it's coming out a little while after the Vista release....should bring more patches, security, etc (also, I believe the SP's have all the previous individual updates rolled into one)

You should be able to run DX 10 on DX 9 cards, just without full hardware support.
