1st Build: high end gaming PC

I just need a double check for compatability and maybe suggestions for saving a little extra cash (like two cheaper cards in SLI mode). This will be used mainly for gaming, a little for music and video editing. I didn't know which DVD burner to get; low price is nice but quality and reliability is more important.
I might build a custom case too...and overclock in the future.

Well If you are using this for gaming then I think you are all wrong. Sorry
Go with intel's duo core. e6400 or e6600 if possible. Also go with ati. Much better in graphics but it looks that yu are going sli. I the you what sli sucks. Crossfire is way better.
Everything besides that looks great. I had the same problem when I was looking at specs but people help out. Now it will be a way better pc.

Why is it all wrong? The specs look fine for a gaming rig. Nothing wrong with building a gaming rig based on a AMD processor. Many of the gamers on this forum use AMD processors.

SLI sucks? Why does it suck? It's much more mature than CrossFire so most of the bugs have been worked out by now. And many gamers here use NVidia based video cards and I'm sure they feel they made the right choice.

xraycatj: A top end video card will perform better than two lesser video cards in SLI mode. Stick with the eVGA you listed.

Lite-On DVD burners are reliable. I've been using Lite-On burner almost exclusively for the past 4 years and haven't had one die on me yet. But I've had to replace about 5 Plextor burners that stopped working correctly a few years ago (one reason I switched to Lite-On burners). Most of those worked less than 2 years.

You can probably save some cash on the case.
Thermaltake is a rather expensive brand.
Newegg has about 400 cases without power supplies.
Go to this page, check the no power supply box and whatever else you want to use to narrow down the list and browse through them to see if there is something you like.
I would go with a Core 2 Dou processor on an Intel 975 or 965 chipset motherboard and a single video card.
SLI and Crossfire are both unnecessary.
A single video card will outperform 2 that each cost half as much, and the board will be significantly cheaper without SLI or Crossfire.
The E6600 processor is about the best deal for price/performance in the Core 2 Duo line.

That 7950GX2 is a very powerful card, low power consumption and good performance. I doubt you will ever need two of them, the drivers suck anyways.

Overall for a amd build, pretty good.

Nice choice on the psu.

That asus or the non-onboard video version of the intel 965 board should be good.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813121035

Replace that memory with this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145015

Everything else should stay the same.

But you can't overclock with that borad. The conroes are ment to be overclocked, and puitting that aside would be stupid.

OK, Not everyone is out here for overclocking. IN NO WAY do you HAVE to overclock anything. Overclocking increases the risk of component failure and data corruption. And its not something at all that a newcomer or anyone should do unless they are doing it for fun or a hobby.

looks like you did your research. reliable components youve got there, good PSU and mobo.

ill tell you what, cricket's right about lite-on drives. he's never steered me wrong, and he told me about them, they work GREAT and extremely affordable. mine have been fairly quiet too. in fact, i just ordered my 3rd one. never a single problem
