Is it possible to build a laptop?
Like the title says - is it possible?
If so, how? Any good links? If not, well; shame. It just crossed my mind and I figured you were the guys to ask. |

the parts for them are a lot harder to find and a lot more expensive. I've never actually tried to build one, but I once asked the same question you asked and was told it would be more expensive to build one then to buy a pre-built, and hence wouldn't be worth it.

There are now some companies that sell all the bits so that you can build a customized laptop, but the selection is limited, you kind of end up building a laptop in the same way you customize one at any OEM that sells them.
The bottom line is that the laptop is almost all custom parts- google "build laptop" and except for the first hit copied below all the rest are OEM's http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/05/...ook/index.html

You need the April 2006 edition of MaximumPC
It's got the "Build Your Own Laptop" guide. Where to get the parts, what to watch out for and, most especially, what order you have to do things in.
