New build - no display

I've finally assembled my PC, and on initial bootup, all fans spin and everything gets power (CD tray opens and shuts, Hard drive spins), but my monitor isn't displaying anything. I've tried pulling everything out of the case and putting it on a non-conducive surface as suggested, and still no display.

I was curious and decided to see if I would get an error code/beep from my mobo if I pulled out the RAM and/or video card, and I was slightly concerned that I didn't. I assume it could be that the internal speaker doesn't work, but could it also mean my mobo is bad?

I'm running a Core 2 Duo E6600 on an Asus P5W DH mobo with an ATI X1900XT 512MB video card and 2x1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800mhz RAM.

What brand power supply are you using and did you connect all the necessary motherboard power connections?

Power supply is an Antec 550W ATX12V v2.2

And I made sure that I had the 12V connector attached.

By "internal speaker" do you mean the case speaker that connects to the motherboard or the built-in piezo speaker you see on some motherboards? I don't think ASUS motherboards have built-in piezo speakers.

But if you really aren't getting any beeps at all then you may be looking at a DOA motherboard.

I mean the built-in piezo speaker, and I just assumed it was a standard feature on most motherboards... And I'm really not getting any beeps at all... I was afraid that I may be looking at a DOA motherboard, I just didn't want to believe it...

No, not all motherboard have a built-in speaker...and that ASUS doesn't have one.

Did you hook up the case speaker to the motherboard yet?

Since the C2D and supporting motherboards are so new you may want to wait to hear from someone who is actually running a C2D based system. Maybe they can point something out to you that I don't know (I haven't built a C2D based system yet).

Check one thing. There is a chip to the right of the second to bottom PCI slot. There's a sticker on it - there should be a version number on it, what is it? (ie, 0502, 0702). That's the BIOS version on the board...some of the first versions don't support C2D. If thats the case, ASUS should ship you an updated chip (the one with the sticker) that you can swap out. It's usually around $5.

Yeah, I tried it with the case speaker hooked up and didn't get any beeps there either. The BIOS version on my mobo is 0701, and the ASUS website says that all versions from 0604 going forward are C2D compatible. So is it safe to assume it's DOA then?

Sounds like it. Start the RMA process and I hope you don't have any problems with the replacement motherboard.

Yeah, I've heard 0701 is the minimum required. Run of the luck I guess...
