New PC

Last week I purchased the following components for building my own PC

Power Up Black Gamer ATX Mid Tower Case
Intel D945GPMLKR Socket 775 Motherboard
Intel Pentium D 840 3.2gGHz DT 800FSB
Masscool 8W0141B Socket 775 CPU Cooling Fan 3.6GHz
Ultra 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz (4)
Hitachi 160GB Serial ATA w/NCQ
Ultra 500w V-Series PSU Black
ATI Radeon X1900 GT 256MB PCIe w/DVI

If anyone can answer the following questions it will be greatly appreciated:
1. For some reason, the case came with out any instructions of how to install the motherboard. Any recommendations / schematics available?
2. How tight does the heat sink have to be on the motherboard?
3. Is there a reset button on the motherboard (or anyway to reset it?

Thank you very much for your support
Regards
Chris

1.) Try looking here http://support.intel.com/support/mot...sktop/d945gpm/.

2.) The connection should be tight, and a layer of thermal grease applied.

3.) There are jumpers for a reset switch on the board. Look over the docs @ Intel.

make sure that you don't even power up the system until you think that the heatsink is as secure as it is ever going to be. Then, after you feel safe with it, i would power up and keep checking your temperature reading in the bios to make sure that everything is factory specs/ temps.

Did you try this before putting the motherboard in the case?

Never a bad idea.

2) You'll hear those 4 "pins" "snap" when they are in all the way.

Make sure you have thermal grease for that new heatsink fan. Using one other than the one that came with the processor voids the warranty, just to let you know.

Thank you all for the great feedback.
1. How much thermal grease should I use? If both surfaces are covered should it be enough?
2. the case came with some flimsy plastic mount supports for the motherboard. Can I use these? http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...tId=2102860&cp

Thanks again for the great help
Chris

Before adding ANY thermal paste, look at the heatsink and see if any was preapplied. If so, do NOT add any more. If you need to apply some, do NOT use a lot, go read the instructions at arcticsilver.com for the proper way to apply it. Their instructions are good for using any kind of paste.

Use the standoffs which the case came with. Install the CPU, heatsink, and ram BEFORE mounting the motherboard in the case. Do this BEFORE mounting the motherboard in the case:
