blue screen issues
hey guys, just got the following build together and im having some issues with blue screens, heres what i got:
Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe mobo AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ Socket AM2 Processor CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Enermax Liberty 620 watt psu single 320gb Western Digital hdd single EVGA 7900gt alright, so i finnaly got this stuff together... however i am being plagued by some blue screens. Windows installed fine, all my drivers are up to date, so is my bios. The computer will just randomly crash, sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row not long after start up, other times it will be fine for 6 hours or a day and then crash. The most commen screen i keep seeing is "windows has been shut down to prevent loss to your system.... blah blah" and then "A process or thread crucial to system opperation has unexpecdely termanted or exited." The stop error number on this screen is "Stop Error: 0x000000f4 (0x00000003, 0x89c94120, 0x89c94294, 0x805d1140)." The other two blue screens i am seening from time to time are for a "Kernal_Stack_Inpage_Error" and a "Kernal_Data_Inpage_Error." If some one could point me in the right direction for trying to solve these issues, that would be awesome, i really don't know what to do next, other then to go play the format game, no fun. Thanks. |

Try running Memtest.
www.memtest.org or better yet, the Ultimate Boot CD (has Memtest, plus loads of other goodies) www.ultimatebootcd.com You might be looking at a AM2 memory compatibility issue (but I thought we had some other folks running that combo without problems). Also check the voltage for the memory (Vmem) - it should be 1.9V...if it's set to 1.8V, bump it up.

ok, i can see in my asus Ai Booster that my memory voltage is set to 1.8V, however, after scouring my bios, i coulden't find where to change it to 1.9V. i also downloaded memtest... it came as a .iso file. i mounted it in daemon tools but i still don't know how to get it to run, double clicking the cdimage just opens a blank windows explorer page. Mind holding my hand threw this?

You'll have to burn the ISO to a CD and boot from it...much like you did with the Windows CD. (or use the floppy package and boot from a floppy disk)
Take a look through your manual...I'm sure it says in there how to change it. I think I'd try to change the voltage first. That RAM is designed to run at 1.9V, so it's possible it's not stable at 1.8V. |

nevermind, found the power setting... it was in the asus Ai Booster, not in my bios. Anyway, ram is now running at 1.9V, still no luck getting memtest to run.

You'll still need to set it in BIOS (or will AI booster set it for you?). Otherwise you might have to keep AI booster running to keep it set.

You have to treat the iso as an image with your burning software - open it and burn it to a CD, boot with the CD.

well, still no luck gettin memtest to run, however i did open winamp while doing some messing around in photoshop to try and test the ram, and its been soild with the new 1.9V setting, usually just messin around in winamp would just cause the comp to blue screen. we'll see how things go, i'll keep in toutch. thanks.

OK - there's no better way to test the stability than to just use it normally for a while. Hope that fixes it for you.
