What power supply would you folks recommend for an ABIT NI8 SLI mother board?
Also going to be running 2 optical drives, playing some games. Thanks for the help in advance |

To follow up on that
Working on my girlfriend's pc. Everything was working great, Windows loaded on the first try (too good to be true right?). Anyway, I go to restart the computer and nothing. No response from the power button to turn it back on, no fans running, nothing. The LED on the board blinks F.1 for the post code as well as C I think but it's very fast so hard to tell. Then the LED goes blank. Am I correct to assume this is likely a power supply issue? PSU is an Ultra which I have read are not top of the line. I have taken everything out of the case and tried numerous ways to get things working but to no avail. Don't have a spare power supply to try with but guessing this might be the cause of my problems. |

I think you're on the right track by replacing that Ultra. Also make sure you are using a true 24 pin or 20+4 pin power supply if her mobo requires it. DO NOT use a 20 to 24 pin adapter. Those have proven to cause all kinds of headaches.

The power supply has the 20+4 pin connection, not an adapter. Things went south so quickly I really suspect the power supply to be at fault.
Thanks for the help |

Ok, bought a new power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954
Hooked everything up, moment of truth time. Well it's a no go. Now the LED post code display is blank and the other LED power light is just blinking. No response from the power switch, no fans come on. Does this mean that the motherboard is in fact dead? Everything is out of the case, bare bones. Anybody have any suggestions? |

Is it built out of the case as per the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 IF so, then yes - you're looking at a faulty component. Can you post the full specs of the machine. FK |

Yes, built out of the case.
I'll do my best with the components off the top of my head ABIT NI8SLI motherboard, Intel Celeron D processor GE force 6800 Extreme video card Seagate hard drive DVD drive, CD drive FSP 450 watt PSU 1 stick of PNY ram floppy drive That's all I can think of at the moment. It was up and running long enough to load Windows XP, now nothing. So I'm wondering if the motherboard or CPU could have been damaged somehow? |
