Title says it. I offered my assistance to a friend to come up with a top of the line gaming computer and we came up with this together...
OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit System Memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227124 ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131028 APEVIA (ASPIRE) X-CRUISER-BK/420 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 420W Power Supply - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144157 Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, TUV, CB, FCC CLASS B, CUL - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103931 LITE-ON Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache ATAPI/E-IDE DVD Burner W/ LightScribe - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106019 Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz 2M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115004 Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701 the build will also included two of the 250gb hard drives for extra storage. What do you guys think? My only concern is with the power supply not being able to power the system, but, I think it is ok, right? thanks again guys Last edited by DarkPacMan77; 09-10-2006 at 02:43 AM. |

If you are not buying till march, wait till Feb. to start looking at parts. Like you said, better stuff will be out by then.
You need a video card. and as OS. I think i would go with some different ram.(maybe when you order ram prices will be back down to normal) |

There will be a ton of new hardware releases, price changes, new parts, discontinued parts, etc...as said you'll need to completely revise that list. the computer world changes FAST...6 months is an eternity.

And yeah, spec'ing out a system now but doing the actual build next year is not practical. There will be lots of changes by then so you should put the planning stage off until next January or so. Cricket

Memory: Skip that OCZ memory. While still being some great memory for the price, The current chips have been having MAJOR issues with 965...
I suggest This or this instead. Motherboard: That mobo is a superb choice. Rock Solid. But..if your not interested in the extra features it offers, or aren't worried about max overclockability, then I suggest the P5B vanilla instead. The vanilla is just the basic version. Just much cheaper. P5B Vanilla . But if your looking for a dual card capable motherboard. And since you are in that same price range. I suggest the ASUS P5WDH Instead. The p5b deluxe will not be able to run crossfire. Speaking of which, what about Videocard choices?

thanks for the input...and yeah i know 6 months is a hella long time in comp world
and i thought the vid card was posted but http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130023 that is the link and its just kind of an outline...i all ready have XP pro and win2000 on disk...but i imagine XP pro if i cant get Vista bootleg then i will have pro on there untill i can get vista...sorry but paying 600 dollers for an OS is just ludacris in my eyes i hope thats not majorly frowned upon but i just cant afford to pay that much for a disk i will prolly only use once its just not logical but this comp is just an outline of ideas and working on putting comps together i know a lot of things will change but my price will not i exspect to pay around 1500 i want a top notch comp sumthing i wont have to worry about for a few years to come since i cant always put money into updating once again thanks for the input |

I highly suggest the X1950XTX when it comes out in two days. It cheaper then the 7950GX2, is a single card, and beats the GX2.
Otherwise build looks great after you've made the changes that were suggested.. |

Yea sorry, I didn't include the video card, that would have saved a lot of hassle apparently. So now that it is added... will that power supply be able to power the system? also, in regards to the x1950xtx that mr. ferrari suggested, will it power that as well? thanks guys. |

Well then i have no more questions about this build... i don't think
in fact, i guess i do have one. For a top of the line gaming build... which mobo, the p5b or ASUS P5WDH ? the final decision doesn't really rest with me anyways, just something to consider i guess. |
