Question N' Sync

I was in a computer store yesterday where a person is having a computer built for themselves . I overheard the computer person say to his customer “we will make sure that all of the parts are in sync with each other”. Then he went on to talk about verifying the timing of each component and a few other things (that started to smell).

In sync with each other? What does that mean?

I decide which parts I wish to put together making sure that they will work together by reviewing my configuration with you guys. None of you has said anything about my configuration not being in sync. Once I get the green light from you I will buy and assemble the parts.

Any comments about that “sync” thing would help!

Thanks!

Probably a more appropriate term would be "assure that all parts are compatible". Or some folks say "make sure everything plays nice together"!

btw, I've been in sales for over 30 years and a common joke is:

How do you know when a salesperson is lying? His/her lips are moving!!

(Doesn't apply to me, of course!)

Was it Best Buy? Those people are retarded. My brother bought an emachine there and the guy is like "We can install everything for you; including Anti-Virus, Microsoft Office, and more, for a price of $30!"

I said no to the guy, came home hooked it up and everything was preinstalled. They try to rip people off so bad. It's sad.

Not to defend BB but the AV and MS Office that are preinstalled are trial versions that expire soon after you buy the pc. The $30 fee is most likely for installing the full versions of the software. That would not include the price of the software though. I'm sure that is extra.

I think the only thing BB is good for is free advice from rather knowledgable people about computers. Seems how these forums exist, if your problems relate to computers... then why goto best buy? I like to see technology, not extrememely overpriced technology.

Being knowledgeable about computers has become very "in vogue" in the last few years. The majority of people I know (even the relatively computer illiterate ones) can tell you the major components of a computer and what they are used for. Based on my experience, the BB-type salespeople fall into the "enthusiast" category, but they may not have a lot of experience. So, they can sound as knowledgeable as an expert, but if something goes wrong or you come to them with a unique question, they often have no clue what you are talking about.

Any reputable salesperson will tell you that playing 'N Sync on your computer will hopelessly destroy it and the eardrums of anybody around it.

I agree that salespeople at just about every big-box retailer are good for a laugh and not much else.

I heard a very interesting description of what a "pixel" was to a customer (in Dixons - UK) before...I just wish I could remember what was said.

I came close to asking if they could repeat what they just said, to convince myself I really heard it.

Funny funny things can come from some sales assistants mouths.

When I bought my moms laptop from Best Buy a couple months ago the saleperson tried selling me all kinds of junk and some crap $150 warranty. Geez, if I was just some sucker off the street I wouldve been taken for maybe $750 for a laptop I got for $425...including tax.

Speaking of BB. I bought a wall mounting kit for my LCD TV and they tried selling me on an installation of the TV. They wanted 300 bucks just to mount this to the wall and 100 bucks to hook up the components to it. You know what PT Barnum said: 'There's a sucker born every minute.'
