Exclamation First time builder needs help!

I am building a computer for the first time, Ive just bought a lot Dells before. I can spend up to around $1,500.
The memory stick I want to get is DDR2 675 x2 1GB for 2GB total, my motherboard says "DDR2 Standard: DDR2 800" So do I have to get a DDR2 800 type of memory?
Do you think the fans on the case will keep everything cool enough?
What will I need in my computer to be able to connect to the internet with a cable modem?
Is the power supply good enough for everything to run? I will be using USB mouse, keyboard, printer, webcam, and a headphone/mic combo.
I might want to overclock my processor to about 3.0 - 3.2Ghz will it be cool and have enough power?
If anyone has suggestions I would LOVE to know what you think!

Which case should I pick? Or have another you like?

Case 1 (6 80mm fans, noisey)

Case 2 (1 80mm and 3 120mm fans, not so noisey)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146018

Case 3 (3 120mm fans but PSU far away from mobo)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129154

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775
This should be compatable with the motherboard right?

Memory 1: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 675 (PC2 5400)
Is this compatable with the mobo?

Memory 2: CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit
ONLY if the one above is not compatable

Video Card: ASUS EN7600GS SILENT/HTD/512M Geforce 7600GS 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16
It has no fan only a heatsink. Is that ok? Will I need more than one of these to play high end games?

Power Supply: Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, TUV, CB, FCC CLASS B, CUL

I had one PNY Verto GeForce 6600 256MB DDR AGP Graphics Card in my old system and I could run 99% of games on at least mid-range settings. The only game I found I couldn't play at all was Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. That was a 256MB... so will one 512MB card be good enough for mid-high range settings on games?

What resolution will you be playing games on? I would recommend the 7900GT, quite a bit better than the 7600GS, and within your 1500$ budget.

I never go above 1024x768, I am not THAT into games where I need flawless graphics at huge resolutions. What is important pixel pipeline, high level gpu, 256MB, 512MB? I am still looking around for cards but...

what about:

eVGA 512-P2-N548-TX Geforce 7600GS 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130021

or

XFX PVT42EYDF3 Geforce 6800XT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150154

what do you think of those? SLI them?

What about this one?

BFG Tech BFGR79256GTOCSINE Geforce 7900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143061

I need to know if my motherboard says "DDR2 Standard: DDR2 800" do I have to get a DDR2 800 type of memory?

I'm not sure if that motherboard supports SLI, and it would make more sense to get a 7900GT if pixel pipeline is more important, since it has 24, compared to the 7600GS's 12, and 6800XT's 8, I'd recommend XFX, or eVGA, the BFG is underclocked. eVGA offers a trade in policy also, so you could upgrade within three month and deduct the price you paid, but only if the retailer/e-tailer is on their approved vendor list.

That one looks good for you, it's a 7900GS so it has 20 pixel pipelines, but since your only playing @ 1024x768 it should do you good for quite a while. Considering I have the 7900GT and I can play the latest games, 1680x1050 on high resolution.

If your not big into your games a 7600GT would probably be fine. Although i wouldn't reccomend the BFG because of the cooler being so loud. It makes a really annoying whining noise.

How important is it to get a 512MB vs a 256MB card? What are the differences between them?

512 is a good way to "future proof" your system for a while. Near the end of the "next-gen" video game consoles, i imagine the PS3 and Xbox360 titles are going to be able to push themselves farther, and the pc versions will need a little extra to play with.

No point in going 512mb if your card actually cant use even half of it. The only true cards that will be able to make full use 512mb ever would be the 7900GT or ati's higher end X1K series.

Btw you can sli on a intel chipset.

Before I start let me first make a correction:

Quote:
Btw you can sli on a intel chipset.
That was a mistake by me, I meant you CANT sli on a intel chipset.
One of the downsides of posting at 7am.

And the 7900gs would be the best out of those that you linked. They have fixed 7900GT issues mostly. If you can afford the GT go for it.

With conroe ram timings wont make a difference. Just go with whatever is cheaper.

That would be fine. But just to make a suggestion..

If your looking for a card that will give you the maximum performance for your buck then
why not the X1900XT 256MB- It will run 10 laps around that 7900GT. Then take a small break to slap it. Then run 10 more laps around it :P.

Lol either is a great card. Both will run your games great . Your choice on the GFX and PSU. Otherwise you are set.

Thanks a lot for the info!! Maybe my last questions:
That card is crossfire? is that the same as SLI but for ATI? and is crossfire compatable with my mobo?
Is the motherboard I picked a good one? Is there another one I should be looking at?
Dont you think 550 Watts is enough to power this machine?

1. The card I linked is not a crossfire card. However you can buy a crossfire card in the future if you need to. You need a crossfire 1900 + a normal X1900XT/X + crossfire capable mobo to run it. It differs from sli as it has a two different card requirement.

2. Yes crossfire is ati's version of sli. And no your motherboard is not compatible. You need a 975x chipset to be so. P5WDH, Intel bad axe 975 are a few examples.

3. The motherboard you picked out is rock stable as far as that goes. But only drawback is you wont be able to run crossfire, if that is something you need.

4. That psu for a crossfire setup or single card setup? For single its fine but for dual no.

you should put your interests and money into a single-graphics card build. To be honest, most people that experience graphics cards failing use sli or crossfire, or their psu is not powerful enough so they busted them.

finding a good, reliable gpu like the x1900xt or x1900xtx will be worth your money, and most likely worth the headaches you will save in the future. I think your build is just fine.
