Want To Build New PC

Good Day, I am thinking of building myself a new pc. I have about $700 to spend on my cpu. the system will be used primarily for my personal use and the occasional gaming. I would like to run programs such as ArcGis, Autocad, Photoshop, Corel Draw so i think i will be needing lost of space for my photos and possible sum ikonos imagery and maps. I would love for it to probably have an additional hard drive to store my music bcause im lost without it on my pc.
can u guys assist me in building the best system possible. programs are not to be added in the cost of building the cpu because i can most programs i need are a arms length away.

Any perference towards AMD or Intel? Both are excellent choices, so you can't go wrong with either one.

If by "$700 to spend on the cpu" you are talking about the processor and not the entire computer... then, you should definitely get the highest core 2 duo that you can for the dollar, they are extremely fast.

With a 700. budget, you can build a system with an E6300 C2D, an Intel 946 GZIS microboard (which has 4 SATA connectors), 1 Gig of Crucial 1.8V / 5 SSM, a good 400 - 450 watt PSU and whichever hard drives and cases you prefer. That board has the GMA 3000 graphix, which do surprisingly excellent. If you're not happy with it, you can always and a vid card later. 2 Gigs would be overkill and a waste of money with this setup - totally uneccesary.

That motherboard dosen't support the Conroe, though.

newbuilder, it does infact support Conroe:

Besides, I believe Chuck is running that board with a Conroe

I agree and disagree about the 2 gigs of RAM. 2 gigs would be nice if you get into some heavy photo editing, but it won't happen on this budget.

perhaps a core 2 duo build is out of the question though...

even if you are wanting to only play games occaisionally, you may want to look into the amd 939 socket processors

an AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+ can be paired with a good, cheap mobo and that would save you some money and make upgrading to a decent video card more logical...

just to keep suggestions on the table.
