Pissed hard drive or ata cable????

every time i turn on my pc it loads everything fine then it detects the hard drive on my pc then after that it says secondary ide 80 conductor cable not present or attached when it clearly is and i have used this cable before for my cd-rw drive and it works fine...i have done all nessesary checks on the hard drive it is connected to and every thing says its fine i have a 1000ghz proccessor 512mb ram nvidia 128mb video card cd-rw (not in use at the moment) DVD-rw drive, and 3 harddrives...any suggestions...please help cause i want to save files to this hard drive but scared cause it might screw up!!!!!

You seem to have forgotten to switch the jumpers. Set the hard drive to CS, or 'Cable Select.'

ok if i switch the the hardirve to cs what do i set the dvd-rw too???

Okay, now that you've mentioned you have a DVD-RW, that makes things different. Actually, set the hard drive to primary and the dvd-rw to secondary. Or vice versa, I personally would set whatever your first boot device is to primary, then the other drive to secondary.

ok just to make it perfectly clear....connected to my pc is primary master 30gig boot hd, primary slave 30gig storage hd, secondary master 18gig storage hd, and finally secondary slave DVD+rw....

If you're using 80 conductor cables, jumper both devices (no matter whether they're hard drives or opticals) CS.

You determine master/slave settings by connection the drives to the colored connections. The one at the black end will be the master, the one at the grey connector will be the slave, and blue goes to the board.

so far nothing....same as before but the drive is working...i think...any other suggesions would be great!!!!
