Recommended motherboard for budget Celeron D system?

Hi guys,

I am going to put together a budget PC for my mother. She will only use it for internet, email, and word processing. I was thinking of using this Celeron D processor since it is so cheap.

My question is... What motherboards can you recommend I use to go along with this? I found this post and it seems that the 865g chipset is the ideal choice due to the integrated graphics. Can you guys recommend any others that you have tried? I just don't want to get an incompatable chipset that causes problems. I am asking because I don't have much experience with Celeron processors. Thanks in advance.

You don't want that cpu. First it's oem, get a retail box version with a heatsink/fan assembly and 3 year warranty. Second, the mobo's for that 478 socket are all but gone. Choose a CPU for an LGA775 socket mobo.

I highly suggest you get something socket 775. 478 is just too outdated. Also that processor is OEM. Meaning the cost will be offset because you will need to buy a separate heatsink fan assembly.

I suggest this Celeron D Instead.

And for the motherboard:
P5P800-VM
$50.99

OR
P5L-MX
$76.99

*The advantage of this board is that you will have major future upgradeability.
This one has PCI-Express, allowing you to upgrade to a pcie card whenever/if you so wish in the future. The p5p800 will limit you with dying AGP.
This also has support for Core 2 duo and DDR2 ram. Again, allowing you to easily upgrade to more ram or a better processor in the future.

EDIT: Panama's too fast :P.

Wow, you guys were fast. Thanks so much for the suggestions. I will alter my build with your recommendations. Everyone seemed to like the Asus P5P800-VM and since my mom doesn't like computer games, I think I will use that MB. Thanks again everone!
