Alright, so my computer is showing it's age when it comes to gaming. It was built about 4 years ago, if not longer. It has a 9600xt in it with a socket 478 northwood p4 2.66ghz processor. Unfortunately it has the aged AGP graphics interface. So i've come up with what i think would be an upgrade to my current setup. Let me know if i've picked out some quality/good performing parts. (Mostly used for gaming: Counter Strike:Source, WoW, etc.)
Asus Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131569 Corsair Value Select Ram PC3200 2X512mb sticks http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145440 ENERMAX Whisper II EG565P-VE FMA(24P) ATX12V 535W Power Supply - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103512 AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2.0GHz Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA3800BVBOX - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103562 eVGA 256-P2-N554-AX Geforce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130017 With all those parts the total is about 635. I'm trying to keep it in the range of 600 to 700 dollars. Is that video card alright? It's only 128-bit memory interface and from what i've read I should really be looking for a 256-bit. I kind of wanted to go ATI too but that video card was suggested somewhere else in the forums so I figured it was alright. I have about 60 dollars or so if i need to upgrade the card a little bit. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance! |

You're card, which will certainly give you decent performance, can be considered a place holder till Vista and DX10 games come out.
This is an exception for this particular situation , get as much cpu as you can now since you won't be able to later on.

well, im guessing you don't need a new case, however, I would maybe get the antec sonata II case+psu. That will give you a quality 450W power supply and a new case for a change of scenery for just $5.00 more.
The build looks great, everything is compatible. That gpu can be a debate topic though. What types of games are you wanting to play? If you want to play more advanced games than the ones you specified then you should look into a different gpu. Last edited by DarkPacMan77; 09-18-2006 at 09:44 AM. |
