Pissed NO POWER to computer after cleaning

About a month ago, my computer (PC) started to emit some burning odor. The odor came from the power supply (PS). I then opened the computer and cleaned it with a bottle of air dusk cleaner. Took apart all the hardware and sprayed it 'til its duskless. I installed every component back to its appropriate slots and try to turn it on, but no power! I opened the PS and sprayed all the clogged dusk, installed it and still no power.

I went and bought a new PS, thinking that my old PS has burnt out, installed it AND still no power. (FYI: When I plugged the power cord to the computer, my motherboard light (green) turns on.)

What is wrong with my computer? HELP!

Is this a store bought pc or a home build unit? Store bought pc's, especially eMachines are notorious for the failing power supply also killing the mobo. The green led on the mobo merely indicates that the voltage necessary to light that led is making it thru the mobo circuitry. It is not an indicator of a good mobo.

Did you "blast" anything out of place, such as the thin power button cables?

The computer worked fine before I clean it. The only problem was the burning odor coming from the power supply.

Raidmax power supplies aren't the hgihest quality units out there so it's possible you got a bad one. Did you recheck the front panel connector just to make sure you have the power switch wires on the right pins?

If the old power supply was a generic one bundled with a cheapo case, it's probably junk too and dieing (or dead). Upgrading to the Raidmax doesn't really help much.

What about static, did you use sufficient protection?

you should have checked the PS with a multimeter before buying a new one. however if the PSU smells its propably not wise to use it anymore.

I did get a bad PS. Returned it and got a new one, HOWEVER...

when I took all the components out of the case, (laid MB on a non-conductive platform (cardboard box), installed the necessary components (cpu, memory, hd, ps, keyboard, mouse), the computer load up perfectly fine. I HAD power. After shifting all the components back into the case...NO POWER! I checked all the power cables and all, but still no power!

Any suggestions?

Check to make sure that there is only enough standoffs for the number of mounting holes for your motherboard and that they are in the correct position with the holes. Also, pop out the I/O sheild, it may be touching something on the mother board.

Where is the I/O shield located at? Not sure what your're talking about.

The I/O sheild is the piece of metal that the external connection jacks on the mother board go through the case. Should be able to pop it out of the case, they snap in from the inside of the case.
It will look like the left hand item in this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...ard+%2D+Retail

I removed the I/O shield, checked all the wires/pins, plugs, etc. AND still no power when I attempt to turn the computer on.

FYI: Several of the plastic screws used to attach the MB to the chassis are broken. There is a total of nine (9) screws, but I only utilized four (4); one on each corner of the MB. Could this be the problem/issue?

Any more suggestions?

No.

Make sure that no stray standoffs are left in the motherboard mounting tray. Any stray ones will make contact with the underside of the motherboard and cause a short.
