Exclamation Problems with new CPU Fan

I'm clueless at this point.. I just bought a new CPU fan and now my PC wont turn on. Power will run through it but the OS/HDD doesnt boot.

My old fan was a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106061 and my new one is a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835200012

I also noticed that the power connector for my old was was 3 pins and the power connector for my new one is 4 pins. Right now i'm running the basics... primary HDD, RAM, CPU and CPU fan, and graphics card. I am seriously stumped. At first i thought the CPU fan wasnt making contact with the CPU so i put on more thermal paste and still nothing. Also the right light near the power button on the case would usually be flashing but the light wont even turn on.

Specs:
Motherboard: AsROCK LGA775V88+
CPU: Intel P4 3.0Ghz
RAM: 2GB
Power Supply: 580W

Does the computer boot up with the old heatsink fan installed?

Did you try playing with the heatsink fan connector position on the FAN header pins? Since the fan has 4 pins but the FAN header has only 3, did you try the connector both ways?

All you did was install a new CPU heatsink?

Did you try to boot up with the old heatsink installed?

Yes I did and my computer finally booted.. I guess the new CPU fan and heatsink is incompatible? But i just dont understand cuz I got it for the same exact CPU Socket type.

What kind of connector does the new heatsink fan have? 3 pin or 4 pin?

The motherboard has a 4 pin FAN header, right? If the new heatsink has a 4 pin connector are you sure you connected it the right way?

Yeah the MB has a 4 pin header. the new cpu fan uses a 4 pin connector and the old on uses a 3 pin connector. and yes i connected it correctly i even took off the fan off of the new cpu fan and just attached the heatsink to see if the fan was the problem but it turns out even with the fan off, the PC still doesnt boot. so now i'm thinking this new fan and heatsink i bought was badly made.. I'm still wondering though.

The computer still won't boot up with just the heatsink install with no fan? Could be the new heatsink attachment method puts too much pressure on the motherboard and it's warping too much. Or maybe one of the metal "arms" of the bracket is touching something it shouldn't...like one of the circuit traces.

hmm.. the way the new cpu fan-heatsink is attached is by plastic push pin devices which lock in when pressed all the way down.. i do know that when i push the pins in, it requires quite alot of force to lock it in place...

thanks Cricket. the fan was putting too much pressure on the MB so i loosened it.. now it's good!
