Exclamation PSU Recommendation

Hi all

I've been out of this game for a while so I've come for some advice. I use Hardware Monitor on my PC and have recently been getting warnings about my 3.3 voltage and my VDDQ voltage. I reckon it's time for a new PSU!

You can see my rig from my signature - I was wondering what power rating you think I will need and whether you could suggest any possible PSUs to fit?

Many thanks

J

Ps - Not much expansion planned in the future - maybe a 200Gb HD but that is about it.

Thanks

What power supply is in there now? Have you blown the dust out of it and the rest of the system lately?

Note that voltage issues may not be the PSU - failing motherboard capacitors can cause that too. Inspect the board for any bulging and/or leaking caps.

Hmmm. That has to be worth a look although I hope it isn't the mobo.

The PSU is a bog-standard one that came with an eMachines PC bought about 5 years ago. It would probably retail for about £10! It needs replacing anyway for sure!

Look for something in the 350w to 400w range from Antec/Enermax/Sparkle/Forton. Probably can use a 20pin ATX supply verses the newer 24 pin ATX 2.0.

The Xcilo 450 Watt is my recommendation (here). Xcilo is on the good PSU list, but they have better prices than most of the others on the list.

I second the Xclio 450w. I have it in one of my systems and I love it. I also like this Fortron 500w, a bit more expensive than the Xclio but a fantastic unit in my opinion.

The stock eMachines power supply is a pile of junk and is a problem waiting to happen. I'm very surprised it's lasted this long with a 9800XT on it. Get it out of there before it pops and maybe takes other components down with it.
