my computer dosent know how to restart
my computer simply cant restart. it shuts down, turns back on then freezes at the ASUS loading screen. what is going on here?

have you tried updating your bios?
does it give you any error messages or does it just hang on the ASUS screen?

When I turn my computer into standby mode my video card doesn't seem to give output to my monitor, either.

It sounds like its possibly a problem with the BIOS, assuming the ASUS loading screen is the one that is displayed when the computer first starts to boot and not a splash screen on the Windows desktop.
I think a good move would be to look at the ASUS website and see if there are any more up to date BIOS updates available. |

Check the Power Management settings in the bios. Ensure they're "On" and if applicable, that "Power management capable O/S?" is YES or ENABLE. (Or similar wording to that effect.)

ok, so i took it out of the case and it restarted fine, then thinking it would be ok to put it back in, i did, and now and i cant even get a display. fans start and the ram LED's turn on but i cant get a display.
ASUS-A8N SLI EVGA 7900 GTX Corsair XMS 2 GB Hiper 580W even with everything disconnected besides the psu,mobo,cpu,ram,and videocard, i still cant get a display. wil try out of the case build again tonight |

Make sure that you don't have any stray standoffs installed in the motherboard mounting tray. Make sure the standoffs line up to the motherboard mounting holes (the holes with the metal ring around them). Remove any that don't line up.

results....
out of case results: everything works fine out of case. computer can restart and im getting signal on my moniter. i guess this means theres something wrong with how my motherboard is in my case. i have the spacers in all the right places. with one exception: the screw hole in the case in the middle, closest to the back of the computer, the thread is messed up so i spacer thing wont stay in there and i cant put that one in. but i have no extra spacers where i shouldnt. this case is a piece of
 anyway so im not suprised. should i consider a new case or is there a simpler explanation for this problemthanks for the replies... jeremy |

You just need to ensure that no parts of the motherboard are being shorted out on the case...which is what appears to be happening.
If the case is shoddy anyway then it might be worth you while to invest in a better one. |

Remove the bad standoff - you can run fine with one missing. Check the I/O shield mounting carefully - that can cause a short if it's not right. You can pop it out of the case completely to test that theory.
