Can't get past POST !

Not sure what else you need info on.


Unit powers up, gets a single POST beep, screen shows MoBo type, CPU type and Temps, Fan Speeds, and Voltages (Feature of the MoBo I guess), also shows "Press DEL to enter Setup" .


But then nothing else. Pressing DEL does nothing, system doesn't read from A: or C: so can't load drivers or OS

Screen stays stagnant, has to be powered off and on again, most of the time the Temp/Speed/Volt display is there, but not always.


Compatibility issue? Something not connected good? Bad card?

Please, no comments (this card XX is junk), it may not be the best selection, but I was looking for specific things, like 2 serial ports and more than 2 PCI slots.

One thing that is bugging me is that the MoBo specs refer to Dual Channel DDR RAM, but it looks like an option, like it is NOT required. I only have one stick of 512 Mb DDR in Bank "0".

MoBo seems to pass the RAM test (book says it will beep continuously if RAM test fails).


What else should I look for?

First and most important thing to do is read this thread and do the "Out of Case" build paying particular attention the the minimum amount of hardware installed idea.

Had already done basically that, but just tried it again.

No difference.

Stops at POST screen. No error messages either.

asus board either board would have met your needs almost perfectly.


friends don't let friends buy VIA.


Try the min. build without cd/dvd or floppy drives, 1 stick of ram(you only have one so your good. but maybe try it in a different slot?). Try and update your bios?

Neither one of those boards has two Serial ports and they only have 3 PCI slots.



MoBo Tech Support says it's a CPU mismatch, MoBo won't recognize the CPU's 2Mb Cache, recommended this one instead: Intel Pentium 4 531 Prescott 3.0GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor which appears to give higher speeds overall even though it only shows 1Mb L2.

4 PCI slots, and there *IS* a second com port header on the motherboard, all you need is a bracket adapter to bring it out to the rear panel. Intel chipset, will run your 805. Uses DDR2 ram though. It doesn't make sense going back to a single core processor if you don't have to.

As long as I'm violating what I already said, you need to research the power supply in that case.

I wouldn't trust the PSU in that case, and I would NEVER build an Intel build on a board with a VIA chipset.
