Compatibility Prolems With My Proposed Computer?
Im planning on building my first computer, and with the help of my friends I think I can do the building. The main issue right now is to make sure that all the parts are compatible with one another. Specifically the size (I hear it's huge) and power use of the GeForce 7950GX2 (SLI)(Newegg says it requires 550W for SLI but evga says 650), but really all of them. I'd be much oblidged if someone could double-check my work.
Here're the parts: (please bare with me, I pasted from an email then cleaned it up) ATX Computer Cases Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119068 ]COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel, SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail Model #:CAC-T05-UW $49.99 -$5.00 Instant $44.99 CD/DVD Burners (RW Drives) Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106019 ]LITE-ON 16X DVD±R DVD Burner W/ LightScribe and 5X DVD-RAM Write Black ATAPI/E-IDE Model SHM-165H6S - OEM Model #:SHM-165H6S OEM $30.99 Desktop Memory Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820141211 ]pqi TURBO 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model PQI25400-2GDB - Retail Model #:PQI25400-2GDB $229.99 -$20.00 Instant $209.99 Intel-compatible Motherboards Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131031 ]ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail Model #:P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe $229.99 $229.99 Internal Hard Drives Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701 ]Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Model #:WD2500KS $79.99 $79.99 Keyboards Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823126135 ]Logitech Ultra X 967353-0403 2-Tone PS/2 Wired Standard Keyboard - OEM Model #:967353-0403 $13.45 $13.45 Monitors - LCD Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116375 ]ViewSonic VX922 Black/Silver 19" 2ms LCD Monitor - Retail Model #:VX922 $254.99 $254.99 Mouse Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826104191 ]Logitech G5 Laser 931376-0403 2-Tone 6 Buttons 1x Wheel USB Laser Mouse - Retail Model #:931376-0403 $45.99 $45.99 Power Supplies Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103931 ]Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply - Retail Model #:TPII-550 $89.99 $89.99 Processors Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115002 ]Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6700 - Retail Model #:BX80557E6700 $524.00 $524.00 Sound Cards Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102004 ]Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 SB0610 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card - Retail Model #:70sb061000000 $71.99 $71.99 Video Cards Qty. 1 [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130023 ]eVGA 01G-P2-N592-AX Geforce 7950GX2 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Dual GPU Video Card - Retail Model #:01G-P2-N592-AX $494.99 $494.99 SubTotal: $2,091.35 |

Looks okay to me. I've never used pqi RAM, so I can't vouch for them.

if your planning on buying ANOTHER one of those video cards then your going want to beef up that psu. if your getting only one then that should be fine
btw unless your using a ridicously large screen (30" or above) your not going to notice ANY advantage over using two single core gpus in SLI. quad SLI is pretty much pointless at this point until NVida releases its "new drivers". |

I don't think it's any bigger than the dual slot cooler on the 7900GTX or the dual slot X850/1800/1900's
It's going to block the slot below the PCI-E x16 slot. If you're going for a sound card, go for the X-Fi...you might even try the onboard sound (these premium boards have some pretty decent onboard sound) before getting a sound card. Also, you'll need a nice set of speakers/headphones to tell the difference between onboard sound and a high end sound card. Also, you might as well consider a single slot motherboard. As jer888 said above, quad SLI doesn't do any good unless you're running at an uber-extreme resolution. There's just too much overhead juggling 4 gpu's. Here's some good reads: http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/08/...hed/page4.html http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/08/..._diy_quad-sli/ I haven't heard anything on pqi RAM either...you may look at Corsair RAM.
