Some of you might have seen the build I had proposed some time ago, with all of your help I was able to create a second stage of the build list. Now with even more great imput and help from you guys, The third stage; it is a FULL list of the things I will be buying. The only two things not on the list are a Keyboard and a Mouse, I think I will buy these locally, unless you guys have a suggestion for a really good and nice set (set is nice...but separate is good too), wireless needed (bluetooth would be nice)!
(Only 3 things remain from the first stage... )Please be brutally honest about what you think! ~Thanks~ EDIT: To get the best viewing of the Text File, please maximize the window.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106015 With this drive should I still use my IDE cable...or does it support something better, I can't tell. Also for the keyboard how abou this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823109136 Silly HP, charging $20 more for now reason! Last edited by whubbard; 10-08-2006 at 12:55 AM. |

That lite-on is fine, or the samsung with light-scribe. Just don't pay so much for that silly HP!
For the keyboard and mouse, I've have this set and I really like it. It's a laser mouse, much better than the one that comes in that microsoft set. Logitech is a VERY solid company for mice and keyboards, and their support is awesome. If your stuff breaks, they will RMA it without making you send the old on in. (as in never, not just a cross-shipment) This set doesn't use bluetooth, but it does use 2.4Ghz instead of the older 27Mhz like older wireless gear. They do also make some bluetooth sets. If you're really serious about getting a great gaming mouse, the G7 really can't be beat. Sorry for sounding so much like an advertisement, I've just had extremely good luck with logitech's products.

I would not use 2.4 GHz equipment if you have a wireless router, it will interfere.

The G7 looks really rice, I guess I will just turn off the wireless in my house, since I do have ethernet plugs all over, I don't really need it.
Also, Will I be able to supply power to all of those fans with the cables that are provided with them, or will I need to buy some extra cables? Last edited by whubbard; 10-08-2006 at 09:38 AM. |

Well I run an optical mouse near a wireless adapter no problems... maybe it's on a rare channel?

Looks like a fine list to me. Only suggestion I have is to skip all those case fans. Core 2 Duo's run cool, you certainly don't need 6 fans.

My Core 2 Duo runs rather hot, actually. 40-55C. But that's still well within spec.

...I will make sure to place them correctly. Also noise doesn't really matter that much to me, my 7.1 channel stereo will deal with it
![]() Question: On the 'haphazardly' placement of fans...how do you change the fan from intake to extake...flip it over? |

Yes, you just flip them over, but you still don't need so many fans. One 120mm fan on the back for exhaust and one in the front to take air in and blow it across the harddrive should be fine. As cricket said, with lots of fans you have to be careful about airflow balance. You're looking for air to stream through your case. If you have an imbalance between intake and exhaust you can end up with dead spots inside your case where hot air just swirls around and around. If you must, err on the side of more exhaust than intake, giving your case more exhaust so that it naturally has a negative pressure and sucks air in on its own.

...just wondering:
if you were to set all the fans to extake...what would happen? Has anybody ever tried, or done it by mistake? |

My server has both fans set to intake actually. I realized this after it was installed tightly on my rack.
Well, the temps are still good.

two intakes...that just keeps hot air inside...the temps are probably good becuase your things run cool, there is no way for the hot air to get out!!

Looks good. And I can say you will enjoy that monitor. Besure and use the dvi connection and the picture is some of the best I have seen.

With my X1950XTX I will be using the DVI for sure!
One final question...I am currently going to put two fans on my heatsink...is this: 1) Going to do the same thing as one fan 2) Improve the cooling performance 3) Just cause hot air to be blown around, and hurt cooling performance ????????????? Also, If it is going to be '2)' does anybody know where I can get some extra clips, because scythe doesn't have any? |

There are other choices besides the Scythe that I would recommend. And 2 fans on the HSF is completely unnecessary. I personally would recommend something with the fans already installed on the HSF. Check out the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, great bang-for-the-buck.

The Scythe has a fan on it already, I am just going to swap it out. Ok, I'll just use one fan, thanks!

That would be much easier for you.
You're already going to get excellent temps.

I better get some nice cooling with this!!
Just thought I would attach this again, I've changed a cable and the number of heatsink fans. Also, I added a dual 12" cathode kit !!! I think im going to order the system next weekend, while I continue to do silly research this week to make sure that its exactly what I would like, once its built I will upload some photos for all of you to see.~Thanks for the Help~ (if anybody still has any suggestions...please tell me) |

No need to buy an extra DVI cable the monitor and video card will come with cables needed.

I'm getting the extra DVI because I am going to have to wind it around, and I measured the distance, and that cable works perfectly.

Go with AMD rather than Intel...
That way, you don't have to put up with that awful Intel smell

So, we are discouraged from recommending things to people?
Why does anyone one bother to post if we aren't allowed to recommend what we believe to be a better product? All he has to do is ignore it...which is what I do when I've made up my mind. It's not like anyone is going to go to his house and beat the crap out of 'em for not going with the brand we recommend...nobody is making anybody do anything they don't want to do you know...
