Help me identify old mobo
Hey guys, I found this old computer and I was wondering if you guys would help me identify the motherboard. It has E139761 printed on it, I'm pretty sure it's a Gateway. It has a Pentium 2 installed. It's got an AGP, four PIC and 2 ISAs. It's got 2 IDE, 1 floppy and uses a 20 connector for power. On the back it's got two serial ports, a printer port, two USB and mouse and keyboard connectors.
I was just wondering if it was possible to overclock this computer. Also, I have a 3D Prophet II GTS PRO 64MB on it, and was curious if I could overclock that too. Any help is great, thanks. |

If that motherboard is out of a name brand computer then the chances of being able to overclock it is pretty slim. I'm guessing it's some version of the Intel Seattle SE440BX motherboard and not overclockable...but it's very stable.

I found the mode for overclocking the thing. Right now it's running at 266. In the setup, it lets me choose 300 as an option, but whenever I restart the machine, it does doesn't stay 300, it goes back to 266. It's weird because it remembers all of the other settings in setup, just not the cpu freq. Do you guys know of any way to fix the problem or any software that runs inside windows that might do the trick?

I would down SI Sandra.. There's a free version that you can use to identify your hardware. Also try Dr. Hardware.

That sounds more like a version of the AL440LX board. It is NOT overclockable, regardless of what you "see" in the bios. The P2 processor has a locked multiplier which cannot be changed in the bios. Non-Intel built LX boards CAN sometimes be overclocked to 75 FSB and some can even go to 83 FSB. If it HAPPENS to be a 100 FSB-capable chipset (which the LX is NOT) there's a trick you can use on the processor edge contacts to run it at 100 FSB, but there's NO guarantee that a 66 FSB P2 will run at that speed. I HIGHLY doubt that if it came with a P2-266 it would have anything BUT a LX board in it.
What is the Gateway model - it should be on the case somewhere. |
