SPECS:
*ASUS A8N-SLI ATHLON 64 FX/ATHLON 64 SOCKET 939 *AMD 64 |3000+ ATHLON 64 939P *Kingston 1GB RAM DDR400 *RAIDMAX RX-630A ATX12V/ EPS12V 630W Power Supply *Power Color X800GT 256MB PCI-e *Western Digital 160GB Hard drive *NEC 16X D/L DVD-R I recently replaced my power supply because the old one emitted a burning odor. I attempted to boot the computer after cleansing the hardware components, but no power. However, if place the motherboard (MB) outside the case, there's power. Once I placed it inside the case, no power. As a result, I have placed the MB on top of a cardboard box and have been using it for about 3 weeks. The past couple days I started to smell the burning odor again. I've place the side panel case fan next to the CPU for ventilation, but still the computer still emit the odor. I discontinue using the computer because I am afraid that the CPU or what components will burn out. What seems to be the problem? What necessary steps should I take to resolve this issue?

Can you tell me how do you start your computer when the motherboard is outside the case and what case you are using?

Try and do a sniff test to determine where the smell is coming from(PSU/mobo/etc).
As for the system not working in the case, go back to the motherboard manual and find out which holes on the mother board are for mounting. Then compare the hole layout to the standoffs in the case. There should be ONLY the amount of standoffs as number off mounting hole and in the correct places. The I/O sheild also could be not fitting correctly. If you used the PSU that can with that case the first time, when it died it probably streesed other parts. ($29 case w/PSU = junk PSU)
