smokin figure it out

I've been just trying to get a grip on where the PC is going these days. Seems to be mostly gaming rigs - and a merger of the GPU/CPU. I always buy a the wrong time. Last year I bought a D 930 and I love it even though it's not a conroe.
Looks like I'll be doing it again with AMD 2 4000 dual 1gig cahe though on an abit K8 I don't think anyone knows what they're doing with memnory or SLI. I'm.
sure as heck not buying 2 VC/
It will be here tomorrow so I'll be keeping you posted.

being on the cutting edge hurts the wallet. Just get what you can afford and learn to be content.
If you are on a budget go with core 2 duo 6300. But the 6400 only cost about 15 or so more than the am2 4000. I would go with the e6400. But that is me.

You know it's that ddr2 that's got me a little concerned keep hearing latency vs. these outrageous clock speeds. Boot failures with 667 - I'm going to wait awhile and see how it eventually shakes out. I know the Conroe architecture was specifically designed to go past the traditional quad pumped 200 ddr, and get past the fsb bottleneck, but AMD doesn't have that architectural flaw. I own 2 Intels, and love em. Maybe now it's time to try AMD. I'm sure as heck not ready for quad SLI or 1 Kilowatt power supply.
Thanks for the feedback
Regards,
John

My thoughts exactly. Do you care more if you have the highest benchmark scores or if you can do what you want without problems? Example, would you rather be poor and have a really high 3dmark score or have some extra money and be able to play your favorite games smoothly without caring about your exact numbers?

AMD is having their own issues with DDR2 on the AM2 platform, to a point where I still only recommend 939.
