Opinion on this barebone

hi guys,

1st just want to say I have been a member for almost a week and this site is big help. thanks to everyone that helps us newbs.

ok on to the question. I'm looking to build from a barebone and wanted to know what you might think of these setups:
setup 1

setup 2

setup 2

I have bought parts from them and they're honest sellers.

i do NOT want to build from scratch so please don't try to talk me out of a barebone. The case is a highly rated case so thats cool but what does everyone think of the mobo's?

this system when completed with this setup would be mostly for multitasking. Photoshoping, webdesign and tasks. I would game but not as heaviy as most of you, maybe BF2 every other day or 2.

Any thoughts on what to add to the barebone? Trying to keep it all budgeted around $900.

i am wondering can i just use my old hard drive just by simply putting it in the case and coonecting to the mobo?

i plan on getting a 7600gt and if i'm reading all this right with sli i can always add another 7600gt at a later time.

please help an old newb out. thanks in advance.

You realise those components are still going to come as seperate components still in their packaging...so it's no different from building from scratch anyway!

and you didn't realize that it states in the sellers ad that it's all setup and configured, therefore it is a little different isn't it...

no reason to yell.

can anyone else help me.

You will need ram, optical drive(s), video card, and absolutely a new PSU. You can reuse your hard drive, but you will either have to uninstall the current mobo chipset drivers before moving it to the new mobo OR doing a clean install of Windows...I recommend the latter. The only place I would put a Raidmax power supply is in the PC of my worst enemy, they are not to be trusted so you will want to get a different one.

Whichever auction you buy, you will need to go to the mobo manufacturers website and find which ram is on the QVL (qualified vendors list). The AM2's are VERY picky about ram, and you want to stick with what the manufacturer has tested and KNOWS works with their board. Personally, after buying the parts at auction, and then buying the additional parts needed, I'm not sure you can stay under your budget. JMO.

I do apologise...no need to be rude thank you.

In answer to your question about the graphics cards...yes you can run two 7600gt cards in SLI if you want but make sure you are using an SLI certified PSU or you are likely to run into problems.

sorry guys i meant no offense. I love you guys and this board.

after all this I have decided I'm a moron but yet smart enough to just build the damn thing myself.

I'm going with a Intel dou e6600 instead as well. Better performance and I know where to get one for $260 new.

new idea:
  • P5WDH DELUXE/WIFI-AP - mobo
  • Intel dou e6600
  • Keeping the case, buddy has it and I like the look.

any ideas on Ram and a psu. I most likely will get a new HD too.

keep in mind i'm not a big gamer. I am a webdesigner and graphic artist more then a gamer.

again thanks and sorry if i gave the wrong opinion.

What case was that? And what power supply, RAM, etc. do you plan to use?

Good case. Go for the Fortron Source 500w power supply and DDR2-800 RAM.

If you are a graphic designer, go with ATI instead of Nvidia - unless you use a Quadro, which is not a gaming card. The P5W DH is Crossfire capable if you want to play with that in the future. In fact, you may want to get a Crossfire PSU now just so you have it. There's a list of certified units on ATI's website.

Question I Need HELP Please

My computer is a Compaq Presario 5BMW2A (Built in 1999), but over the years, I have kept it going here and there, now I am giving it to my son, and going on to a Customized Dell (which does not matter here) The Compaq is in question here:

I am replacing a new hdd (WD Caviar 80GB EIDE Ultra-ATA/100, adding more memory (this system only take up to 512mb, the processor is only running @ 700mz, but I do have a Nvida G-force 4000 video card (which I replaced), a PCI Ethernet card (which I added) and added a new sound card. Also, this system does not have a CD burner, which I am going to up grade as well to a dual layer because my son is most intersted in this area

The reason why I am not replacing the mother board and CPU at this time, is because I am planning on building him a better system and using the upgraded parts from the Compaq that I have installed already.

My questions are: What type of PSU should I upgrade to, (nothing indicates to me in any documentaiton that I have researched if this would make a difference), naturally since I am going to use this for the new system, I would want to try and get the best that the current system will maintain, without burning up my house

My second question can I put a Ulta ATa/133 2 Channel PCI card to handle the newer drive. I am planning to make the new drive my master, and the older drive my backup hdd. Should I add another fan to the system as well.

Please help, I know that this type of information is somewhere in the forum, but all I could find was information for newer PC's. Thank you
