My power supply

I turned on the power supply which came with my Antec Sonata II - nothing connected, just to see if it would turn on. Here is where I'm confused: It did not turn on. I think it's because it's not connected to a motherboard, right. It won't turn on with nothing connected to it?

Never mind I think I figured it out. The fans on the PSU won't be on unless the computer itself is on.

The power supply gets it's "on" signal from the motherboard When you press the power switch on the case (or do the "out of case" method) the motherboard tells the power supply to turn on (the power supply does supply some standby power - that's how the little green indicator LED on the motherboard (probably not on all boards though) is powered. The rocker switch on the back won't turn it on, just let it turn on.

You really shouldn't be running the power supply with nothing connected anyways (nor is there a need to), they need to have some type of load.

Thanks Blue. I was just checking for a few seconds if it was DOA, that's all. Everything looks like it will go as planned once the parts come. No clue why my case came in 1 day, that's strange.
