1st Build and I'm having trouble

Well my problem is I can't get anything to happen. I have power to everything and I'm prett sure everything plugged in right. All the fans spin up and start, but nothing shows up on the screen. No beeps from the computer telling me anything is wrong, I just get nothing.

The list of the components I have:
x1900 Crossfire Edition
Asus P5W Deluxe
Intel Core 2 Duo 6600
Lite-On optical drives
Seagate Barracuda Hard drive

If anyone has any help it would be greatly apprectiated.

Try building the system without a case first - maybe something is shorting out in the board.

I get the power light to come up on the board and the 2 red leds on the back of the board light up so it doesn't look like it's shorting out, but I'll give that a try.

How many sticks of ram do you have? try each one, one at a time and see what happens Make sure the cpu is properly seated and the video card as well..

Used a different video card off a friends working computer along with his memory, still nothing. The CPU appears to be seated properly. I guess that means either the motherboard or the CPU are dead.

Again, try building the system outside of the case, and do it one component at a time. Start with just the motherboard and power supply. Since you have an asus board, plug in some speakers or headphones into the the jack on the back, Asus boards will verbally tell you what's wrong. Add a CPU, then memory, then a video card, then the drives.

Just forget about the video card for right now, and do you out of case build with the basic components. Then post back.

Well if there are lights, the power supply is fine. I just used that in a build and it's fine. Also, it seems as if you may not have the front power button header attached to the right pins. Do the OOC troubleshooter and manually start it using a screwdriver - I know it sounds pretty wreckless but it's not.

I think I may have discovered the problem. Some of the motherboard were built prior to the release of the Core 2 Duo processor and may have incorrect BIOS. Too bad I don't have an extra 775 processor sitting around to boot the BIOS and install the update.

No, just because the LEDs on the motherboard are on doesn't mean the power supply is fine and working 100% correctly, it just means some power is reaching the motherboard. The PSU could still be defective.

Glad you found the problem. What you could do is contact BadFlash.com and get a new CMOS chip with the latest BIOS for $25.

Talked to Asus tech support this morning. We went through all of the steps and still couldn't get it to post. I guess this part was DOA and is going back to Newegg.
