Help 1st build No Display
I read the sticky and I have my mother board on cardboard with graphics card, 1 ram module (set of 2 ram chips), chasis speaker, and psu.
intel pentium D Asrock conroeXfire board OCZ gold edition ram Cooler master 450w psu Connect 3d ATI radeon x1900 graphics card I have removed/inspected the cpu, graphics card and ram. They all seem to be seated correctly with no damage. When I short the pin the fans power up and no beeps. the display shows the bad connection message. Sometimes When I short the pins the system turns on for about 1sec, then turns off and back on. Still no beeps or display. I removed the ram and the graphics card. Turned it on and it beeps 3 times - silence- 3 times-silence 3times in repetition. I don't know what to do next. Thanks for your help |

did you check the beep code for that board? what does it mean? why are you having to short the pins, is the connection to the board not tight?

He's dong a out of the case build. You touch the two pins for the power sw switch rather than hook up the connectors from the case.. Try the othr ram and see what happens...

What was your problem to begin with? Usually that particular series of beeps means that the system is looking for something to boot with. More details please.

Ok, just to clarify. This is sitting out of the case. I have tried both ram modules in different slots independently of each other and together as a pair. It made no difference.
It only beeps when i DISCONNECT the ram and the gpu. Would this indicate that the motherboard is good? I checked 3 beeps means main memory read/ write test error. there are to leds on the gpu that lights for a split second on startup, and then go out. They are labeled "T fault" and "Ext pwr". When I disconnect its external power supply the "Ext pwr" LED lights up and stays on. This makes me think that the psu is good. I don't know what T fault means but since the Led is off I assume its good. What concerns me is that when I turn it on it powers up fine for a full second, then shuts off for a Quarter of a second than goes back on. What could this mean? Thanks guys for responding quickly Last edited by russ; 10-13-2006 at 08:41 AM. |

I would try another compatible power supply. Cooler Master power supplies are kind of iffy.

If that's not an ATX 2.0 power supply with a 24 pin connector, it's not going to power that rig.
What happens if you leave the ram in and remove the video card? What about removing the ram and leaving the video card in? It should beep either way, if it doesn't beep, whatever is in (video card or ram) is killing it. |

Yes it is a ATX 2.0 power supply and I swapped it with another and its not the problem.
When just the cpu is hooked up, no ram or gpu, It starts up...shuts off....starts up...then it beeps 3 times which means a ram error. With the cpu and the ram installed, no gpu. It starts up....shuts off...starts up with no beeps. With just the cpu and gpu, no ram, It starts up...shuts off...starts up...then beeps 3 times. Unfortunately I dont have any other compatible parts to swap. Based on GPU this would indicate bad ram?? But if the ram is bad whats with the power on..power off.. power on that happens now 90% of the time weather the ram is in or not? Last edited by russ; 10-13-2006 at 06:49 PM. |
