Thinking of a new build...

It's been many moons since I built myself a computer. Plenty of mid-range PC's since the last one though. Alot has changed in the top-end world! I guess my first thing would be, what can I salvage for now to save a few bucks? My comp is in my sig.
I would like to get a dual core, Im thinking of intel this time. I feel like a trator saying it though, it just seems like they are better at the moment..and of coarse a new mobo to go with it. Im probably gunna need a new vid card too, as mine is agp, Im liking the ATI x1950xtx so far.
I mostly want something that will be capable for a few years, like this one has,and also be ready for Vista if i should get it. I will be gaming, and hope to be for some time, so I just don't want to buy a new build and have it be obsolete in a year.
Is there any new tech coming out that i should wait for, or be worth the wait?

Any help, or suggestions are welcome, Im pretty open to any new ideas!!

Wow! We had a lot of late niters. What's your budget? C2D is the way to go right now.

My exact budget is kind of flexable, but i don't want to go too high at the moment, which is why i want to see what i can salvage, but im thinking no more than $1000 to start.
Since the C2D is the way to go, whats a good board out right now that supports it? would i need to buy new ram or can i use the DDR i have now?
I read there are new quad core processors coming out from AMD, worth the wait??

Looking at your sig the only things you'll be able to re-use are the case, optical drives and your hard drive.

ASUS P5B.

Yes, you'll need DDR2...different pin counts.

No because the quad-core platforms won't be stable for awhile (new platforms have historically been fussy and bug ridden until revisions are made).

I wouldn't even reuse the hard drives unless they are SATA. You can stick them in external housings and use them for backups and offline storage. Hold off on a high end video card till DX10 is out.

You might just want to wait till they are out, along with a reasonably debugged Vista, before you do the upgrade.

You are even going to have to get a new power supply, so you may want to look at reusing nothing and keeping the old computer intact for other uses.

Sounds good glc, I think Im gunna wait a little while longer before I do a new build, so I can start from scratch and get everything new. When does DX10 come out, and why should i wait for it? Got a link?

There aren't any DX10 video cards out yet. If you want to build before then, just get a cheap DX9 card to tide you over.
