Angry New Asus P5B-E board install Problem

Hi,
Finally got the new mother board to replace the defective intell D945PVS. Here is the system I have P 3.0 Intell, 800mhz, 2gig mem, sonata II case with stock power sup.Asus P5B-3, ATI Radeon x550, Have Maxtor 2oo gig PCI X 2. DVD drive and DVD REC. PREVIEW 19 inch lcd monitor.

I Have only on sata hooked up as glc said. There is a floppy, dvd drive and dvd r, and the mouse and key board which are all ps2/ not usb plugs. I was told that I would have to do a W XP repair.
So this is where I stand now, got every thing plug in and turn the switch on in the back of case and green light came on in the computer for the mobo. The I push the on switch and the fans came on and then started to cycle the dvd-r and dvd for couple of sec then turned off. It keeps repeating itself, thought if I let it cycle few times it would boot. I tried getting into Bios hitting the delete key, no luck. Got any Ideas?

I also have a brand new PS SmartPower 2.0 500w Antec. The first ps antec smart pw 450 went bad and sent my mobo south.

Ahead of you! Did that and it stills cycles. The only thing is that the floppy doesn't light up in the cycle. I'm going down to the computer store and have them check the memory cards and I have found that the ide ribbon and floppy ribbon are not to my liking form asus. The cables that came with intel board are to short. So off I go to spend more money.Planning to take the board out of case and setup that way. Thought I would be anyone to the punch before they recommened it. Any ideas just post them, I'll be right back! Jim
PS You cna look in this forum for previous problems under hard to boot and in mother board forum under cpu update.
Also the memory is Corsair Val Sel 2GB(2x1GB) 240pin DDR-2 SDram DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Retail.

Took the computer down to the local computer repair shop for them to run some test on the memory and video card swap out. Well the went to plug in the computer it cycled a couple of times and shot a spark out of the case about a foot. They said it was a voltage regulator 5v that blew and it had a small bubble on the top of the chip(?) and has a definite burnt smell. They said it was the borad that was bad on any of the coponents. All that was attached was the cpu /cpu fan the two power plugs and the video card. So I have toget another RMA from newegg. I'll keep you posted. Thanks Jim

If you look at the photo the chip in reference to is the small black square between the power plug and the floppy plug. Just in front of the Cha Fan 2.

No kidding it was the mobo, dogdude - that's what the voltage regulator is part of!

If they didn't remove the mobo from the case to do the testing, you can't say the board WAS defective - it could have been shorting to the case. This is why you ALWAYS do the out of the case test - and you should have done that yourself before installing the board in the case to begin with. I've been building for over 10 years and I ALWAYS do it with EVERY build and motherboard swap.

My fault, I did a out of case before I took it down to the shop. The reason I went to the shop first was to see if they would check the memory and that's when they said bring it down and they would look at it. So I went back home and put it back together and took it down to them. I did what you told me to do. Out of case. Jim
Look at posting at 1:54 today

I did it on the box it came in with newspaper on the top of box, power supply, memory, video card and that was it and it still no video and the green led light was on. I used a metal tip pen and touched the 2 post for switch button, I saw that technique on Asus trouble shooting pages. Also while I was down at the shop I had them check out the video card and it works ok. But your right I should of started assembly out of case. I know the next time.

I think you may want to send a PM to Newegg Support - he may be able to help get you a RMA if you explain what happened - the fact it didn't POST out of the case when you tried it says DOA to me, all the shop did was compound the issue if they tried firing it up in the case. Give him a link to this and your Intel board threads, you've been through too many hassles already.

I talked to newegg and they said it had damage and they don't handle that, I even told him that it wasn't working out of case but it didn't help, so I would have to contact Asus, so I will have to send a request for RMA into Asus and we will have to see what happens. If not I guess I'm out of a board and have to buy another one. Listen, I want to thank you for the help you have given me and I should have done the build out of the case first, but got excitied about having the mobo and getting it up and running like I had done with the first mobo, which went really simple.

I sent a request to new egg for a RMA via e-mail, we will just have to see what their responce will be.

Update, got the mother board back from Asus and the found couple of things wrong and replaced parts on the board. So tomorrow I will try to do the out of case build and go from there, will keep updated on progress. As for the repair install of Xp on the sata hd, can someone give me the thread site to read over this again. I've missed place the copy I made to do this procedure. Thanks Jim
