please recommend good PSU brands

I am finally getting around to changing my power supply
which is a 6 month old 250w Sparkle on a ? 4 year old A7N266-VM and athlon 1.4 (1600+/266 with W2K.
I am getting constant crashes and was told here that I need 350w for this rig,
but there is a bewildering number of brands available.
Can you take a look at these 350-400s at NewEgg and give me a suggestion?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...SubCategory=58

Thanks lots !

Refer to our in house brand list: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

I'd go with a Sparkle or FSP from your link.

Sparkles are OEM and you never know what cables they will or will not come with. But seeing you have had one before and have cables, either one is top notch.

Also this is a good unit:

Yeah, Seasonic's are nice. Get that or a PC Power & Cooling model. The extra money spent will give you endless self assurance!

Thanks to all - Money is tight. I am thinking of going with the Sparkle 350 with the 120
fan which is $37 with shipping.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103012

My current Sparkle is very, very noisy, and its by my bedside.
Do you think the 120mm fan will ensure that its quiet ?

You do not need an ATX 2.0 power supply, you only have a 20 pin motherboard.

Sparkles use noisy sleeve bearing fans. You are better off with the mainstream Fortrons. This is the one you want:

Yeah, FSP PSU's are top notch units, glad it all worked out for you. Just ANOTHER example of why money spent on a QUALITY PSU pays dividends.

What?!? Where did you hear that? True, there is the Power-Q line of OEM PSUs from Sparkle Power (which some companies rebadge with their own name...like AOpen and PowerMan), but there are retail Sparkle Power PSUs too.

And what cables are you talking about? The only loose cable would be the power cable that plugs into the wall outlet (or power strip) and as far as I know all power supplies comes with that. And even if they didn't, it's just a standard power cable you can get at any computer shop for a few bucks.

Whether a PSU is OEM or not is immaterial, the only difference is the packaging. It's like hard drives.

I'm still getting frequent power cuts/shut downs with the 2nd new
350 Watt PSU. As usual its around 9 am when I am reading emails
after the PC has been on all night.
The only thing running is Mozilla email . Memory usage is
about 176Mb of the 512Mb Kingston which has passed recent
extensive stress tests.
CPU usage with this email activity is showing about 3% max.
I'm have Win2000 Pro on an ASUS A7N266-VM with Athlon 1.4G XP.
Ive run many malware and virus checkers but found nothing.
Hopefully a screenshot of taskmgr will be attached-
Off the bottom , not shown , are some OpenOffice items

What now- install battery UPS and eliminate low voltage drop
as a possibility ? New motherboard ? Or ?

Thanks !

Does your area suffer from power fluctuations?

A UPS would be a good investment even if the power isn't the problem.

Brown outs and power cuts are more frequent here in Florida than in the third world,
but when they occur a bunch of other stuff goes down and you know you have a problem.
This shutting down of the PC is isolated and could be due to a small drop of a few volts and
only enough to affect sensitive equiptment like a computer.
If I don't get any other suggestions I'll go out and buy a UPS and eliminate that as
a cause.
Thanks !

Have you checked for heat issues? Those Athlons can be furnaces.

I ran the Asus Probe monitor for a couple of days and the temperature on
the cpu and board were almost dead flat, voltage also was stable right
up to the shut down point.
I am going to try disconnecting some peripherals like dvd, floppy,
tv capture card, etc and see if it still goes down.
Thanks
