Building My First Computer - Questions

Hello guys, I just came across this site looking for a nice guide on how to build a computer. I know how to put everything together etc. My problems come in when its time to first start up the computer. I read and have heard from people that everything is detected when you first start up. Now I also read in a guide where I have to set the voltages for CPU, RAM etc..I thought that the bios automaticly sets these to the correct setting. I know I might have to switch somethings around like Master and Slave and when I install windows I must Boot from cd drive etc. Also whats the deal with setting up my HD? I thought I just install windows and thats it. Now let me post the system Im going to be buying.

Some of the info you mentioned about setting up a new PC is a bit dated. If the motherboard has Intel chipsets, then SATA drives are detected. Voltages/timings are generally automatic with newer BIOS. If you use 80 wire IDE cables you set optical drives to CS(cable select).

To to expand on Cable Select - 80 wire IDE cables determine master/slave by which plug you hook drives to. Most cables I've seen are labeled as to which is which.

Nothing looks bad, but how about a higher quality case and a Seagate 7200.10 hard drive?

The FIRST thing you do is this:

THEN you can mount the motherboard in the case and start connecting stuff. SATA drives do not need to be jumpered master or slave, there's only one per cable.
