Opinion on SLI Mobo
Any thoughts on the following 2 motherboards?
ASUS P5NSLI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131032 vs. ASUS P5ND2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131578 or is there a preferred SLI option? I'm attempting to get into a system around $800 with the best possible future upgrade options. Other components (mainly borrowed from existing threads here): Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811220009 HD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144417 VC - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143049 I'll probably buy another of these to run in SLI in 8-12 months. PS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182030 (SLI ready) RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145566 Proc - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115005 Rest of the parts (drives, monitor) I will scavenge. Thanks. |

Only the first one supports Core 2 Duo...
That's NOT a quality power supply, and it's not SLI Certified (not the same as "SLI-Ready")...no way it could handle two cards, looks like it has a decent amount of power, but I'm concerned about it's quality. You aren't going to get a SLI Certified power supply for $60...most are $90 and up. I wouldn't even bother with SLI, especially on a $800 budget. You can easily save cash on a non-SLI board and PSU, and use the extra money on a better video card etc... In a year, you'll be lucky to find that card to run in SLI. Cards that came out a year ago today are hard to find now (try finding a 7800GT at a reasonable price). And besides that, there'll be something better out that'll outperform two of those...

Sli is something I would never suggest with intel at the moment. Get a normal 965 or 945 c2d supporting boards.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and ordered an Asus P5B instead.

Top motherboard choice. Make sure you follow Blue's advice about the power supply, and you'll have a quality gaming computer. Now you're not going SLI, you don't need an SLI-Certified PSU, but you DO need a quality one.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954 This unit is cheaper than the Rosewill you picked out, and it's MUCH better! ![]() FK
