upgrades

my dad gave me a pc its about 3 years

here what it has
p4 2.4 ghz ht 800mz
asus mobo p4p800s 478 socket
1 gb ram 2 x 512 mb dual ch pc3200
80 gb hard drive 7200 rpm
creative sound blaster live 5.1
geforce fx5200 64 mb agp 8x
nice tower with side glass and 3 fans
power supply 420 watts 20 pins
sony dvd row
nec dvd burner

what should i upgrade ?

what are you planning on doing that would require you to upgrade? if you just browsing the net and checking email then i say save your money

power supply brand is turbolink [Aspire] 2 fans model : 420ATX -12V

i recommend adding more memory to 2GB

If you have to prioritize, upgrade the video card *and* the power supply first. Turbolinks can't be trusted under heavy loads. 1gb ram will be fine for most games but that FX5200 has to go. Got a budget for this upgrade?

I'd get a 7600GS for ~$150, a Thermaltake TT-420AD (40 amps on the +5v, exactly what AGP needs, not dual +12v rails and 28 amps on +5v like that PCI-E Fortron) for ~$50, and another pair of PC3200 for ~125. Complete upgrade in the low $300's. If you want to spend another $100, go for a 7800GS, the strongest AGP card in existence. If you want more power, you can get a single rail Enermax in the high 400 watt range for ~$75.
