Help building my 1st computer

Whats up guys I'm new to the forum. I have been researching computers for a while and feel that building is the best way to go. I have limited knowledge but will have help putting it together.

Here is the wish list.

$1200 budget.

Just the case.

New technology.

Dual core if possible

Not a serious gamer - I play Age of Empires, Sims, or Roller Coaster Tycoon

Going to be used to edit pics and some video, burn DVD's and CD's and play the games above.

AMD if possible but if a Intel will be a lot cheaper then that way would be fine and it also will be upgraded as time and money allow so have at it.

A $1200 budget will get you a pretty nice computer. I usually don't spec systems out nowadays but I will point you to a nice build your own tutorial for you to go over. The other members here can help you pick out the parts for your build.

With a budget like that, you want to be looking at an Intel Core 2 Duo system. AMD's latest platform, AM2, remains buggy - and the C2Ds outperform their processors like-for-like.

Start with the ASUS P5B for a motherboard:

And couple it with the C2D E6600 Processor (which I believe is best bang vs buck)

Add 2GB of Corsair XMS DDR2-675

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145167

Couple it to a high quality power supply (FSP 500w)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104934

And a mid-range video card (eVGA 7600GT)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130062

And a 250GB Seagate SATA hard drive

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148144

And finally an optical drive

Total just a shade over $1000. Finally, add a case of your choice (without a power supply) and Windows XP Home, if you need it. It has a high-powered processor and 2GB of RAM, that makes for a top of the line computer. The only weak link is the video card - simply because of your stated gaming requirements. Spend $100 more for the ATI X1900XT if you think you need to.

I'd definitely go for the X1900XT if you can...

Why not some Corsair Value Select (DDR2-667)?
