ok guys i have bothered plenty of people on these great forums lately why stop now.
after 2 weeks of going from buying a complete setup from buyxg which you guys talked me out of, thank you and then onto buying a pre-setup barebones i have now just realized it's much cheaper if i do it myself with the same parts. this is what i have coming to me from newegg (cant wait)
I need a good but cheap vid card (would prefer nvidia) i'm thinking 7600gs or 6800xt - max $120 I hardly play games at all. I would like to try the new BF 2142 but I would be doing alot more Photoshopping and Coreldrawing then playing games. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814121008R - 7600gs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150152 - 6800xt Next PSU. I hear the raidmax psu's aren't any good so you tell me what you think, remember it has to fit the case and support the card and 2 gigs of 667 ram. Next I need ram, if you guys read the link to the mobo in the reviews you will see there is some issues with certain ram so please tell me what i need to get for the right ram for this board. needs 1.8v would like 2 gigs but for now will stay with 1gb but i do want 667 at least. Harddrive? what is PATA? the mobo says pata. sorry I'm clueless. I would like at a minimum a 16mb cache and at least 160 gigs of space. any additional things you think i need or should addon please let it be known. My left over budget is $500 to spend on the above things ---------- I know the e6300 and mobo are budget but I'm not a heavy gamer and oc'ing to me makes little sense if i'm not/. I might try getting the clock up abit but i'm sure i'll be happy with stock. I'm going from a HP p4 2.4, 1 gig of pc3200 and fx5600 to this so I'm postive the upgrade will be good enough stock, lol. Anyone who goes into detail and really tries to help out I will send $5 paypal your way for helping a much confused noob. Call it a service charge. thanks everyone Last edited by Whitey2006; 10-23-2006 at 06:30 AM. |

The Core 2 Duo E6300 is very good enough for these tasks. Modern games go well with the Cores too.
Enermax and Antec are good PSUs for a PC which has a high-end video card. What's your PSU's budget? Video card? Go for the 7600GS. The 7xxx series have newer architecture and better FPS I think. PATA HDD is Parallel-ATA HDD - which uses 40/80 wire cable. It's an older form of HDD connection. Get a SATA HDD with 8MB/16MB cache instead of IDE.

Get the 7600GS, it's a better card than the 6800XT. You won't play games at max settings, but it will play them at decent quality and decent framerate. It's fine for a non-hardcore gamer. You're by no means pulling a lot of power, so a quality PSU in the 450+ watt range would be adequate. I might suggest this FSP:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954 As mentioned, that mobo has SATA connections, which are a newer and faster interface that PATA. Get a nice 16Mb cache SATA drive of whatever size suits your fancy and you should be good to go.

I checked the qualified vedors list and you could use corsair or even kingston DDR2 (PC 800) your board does support the higher speed.. If you wish to use 667 then I would assume those two maker will run no problem in your new build..
Here are two http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134046 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220071

If you are Coreling and Photoshopping, I'd recommend ATI over Nvidia - Nvidias are more game biased than quality 2D display biased.

heard the x1650pro is the best budget or the x850. but i belive the 7600gs beats them both? i'm also thinking i could just try out the case psu 1st. i'm not using alot of power. i read this on bigbruin.com about the case psu "I did however check the voltage output of the Raidmax 450W supply and found the following; on the 12V rail it provided 12.03V, on the 5V rail 5.19V and on the 3.3V rail 3.46V. Not the best voltages I've ever seen, but not bad either." the patriot memory looks like what i'll go with also. i know newegg is the cheapest but i'll search around ebay too for 2 gigs i use kingston now and it has always been good but it feels cheap. i want to be somehwhat cool with the new specs so i'll try the patriot. so for the drive will this do : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701 i have a external 100 gig drive so no need for anything over 250 internal. |

Using that Raidmax is just asking for trouble...true, you'll save a few bucks now, but you may end up paying later on.

The only place the 7600GS is going to beat those cards is in 3D gaming.

i'm telling you finding a vid card now-a-days is tiring. I have been up 3 nights in a row looking for one.
it's like spend the $200 if i have it on the 7900gs which has good reviews or just get what i need in a budget $110 card. but you see 100,000 reviews for low to mid cards and no matter what it's either ati fanboy or nvidia fanbiy reviews. i just want a card i can run bf2 and 2142 on good settings without lag. i like sweet and smooth but i don't need the oc'ing options. this is crazy. i mean look at it, the 7900gs is as good as the 7950 but yet the 7800gs costs more. the x850 is a great card and better then a x1600pro. is it just me or do they like confusing the hell out of people with numbers and stupid crap like gs.xt.gt and all that. i remember when it was every higher numer was better and there were no letters on the end and ti in the front. i'm just to old.

I agree the 7600gt is a great budget card... should play BF2 high settings no problem.

This article might help clear up some confusion about the naming. I happen to know the author quite well, I see his face in the mirror every morning as a matter of fact
.http://www.pcmech.com/show/video/969/ If you just want a quick and dirty recommendation on how to spend your money, this article is great. http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/09/...for_the_money/ If you want more numbers than you can shake a stick at, take a look at the charts here. http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html

I'm not an Nvidia or an ATI fanboy, but I generally recommend an Nvidia for a gamer and an ATI for design work.
Yes, ATI makes some excellent gaming cards and Nvidia's 2D display is a lot better than it used to be, but I'm simply discussing generalities. They BOTH have a lot of driver issues in my opinion. I'm not a gamer and I've had them both, for my use I prefer ATI but I also have had a couple of Matrox cards that looked just gorgeous. Totally forget gaming with one of those though. |
