Failure to Start
Okay, I'm building my first computer. I bought all the parts from newegg. The hardware is as follows:
CASECOOLERMAS|CAC-T05-UW BLK RT MB ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP R VGA EVGA GF7950GX2 01G-P2-N592-AX R HD 250G|WD 7K 16M SATA2 WD2500KS % CPU INTEL|C2D E6700 2.66G 775 4M R DVD_BURN SAMSUNG|SH-S182D RAM BK % PSU ANTEC|TP3-650 RT MEM 1Gx2|CORSAIR VS2GBKIT667D2 R I believe I installed all the hardware properly, and I think I connected everything correctly, but when I turn it on nothing happens. The rear case fan spins several times then stops. The case power light stays off. And the mobo light goes on. nothing else happens. The PSU fan does not appear to be spinning. The fan could be explained by the fact that it is plugged into a special fan power cord and the PSU supposedly sets its speed based on the amount of power being used, and if there is no power being used, then the fan doesn't spin. Do these symptoms sound like anything to you? Are there any connection I should check? Please help! |

Still no luck. I'm thinking that it's a PSU problem because the fan in the bottom of th PSU is not spinning. It should always be spinning when on, shouldn't it?

Follow the troubleshooting instructions found here. You must remove the motherboard from the case when doing this...you're trying to determine if the motherboard is shorting/grounding out to the case somewhere.
Also, did you install the LGA775 heatsink while the motherboard was already installed in the case? It's easier to install the LGA775 heatsink if the motherboard is out of the case. Here's a good installation guide. Cricket

I think I know the problem. It fits that the connection between the front of the case (power button, power light, reset button) is somehow faulty. It would explain a lot. I have this little white Q connector thing (or something like that) that is supposed to help, I took that out but still the same problem. Is there a way to test to see if it's a problem with the case/wires or the mobo connection?

You can touch a screwdriver to the 2 pins on the motherboard that attach to your case's power switch. If it boots up, you'll know the switch itself is faulty.
If it still won't boot up, follow the steps in Cricket's link. |
